Question Cat and new baby on the way!~

I just found out that I am pregnant and I was wondering if it hurts the baby to have a cat in the house? I have heard some people say that you can not have them, I love my Tie and I would never get ride of him but I also do not want to hurt the baby. I do not see why it would so it is prolly one of those old wise tales that are never true. If someone could let me know their opinion I would appreciate it!

There is absolutely no reason why you can't have a cat and a baby. And yes, all the reasons why not that you may hear are ignorant superstition and myth.

Just wash your hands thoroughly after cleaning out the litter box.

My brother and his wife had 5 cats when their daughter was born. What they did was install a screen door on the baby's room to keep all the cats out, yet they could still see and hear the baby. My niece grew up with all these cats, plus a big dog and numerous other animals. She was taught how to be kind to them, and the result is that she grew up to be very kind and knowledgeable about animals!

Congratulations!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........

Like LR said, there is no need to give up your kitty.

When I was pregnant,I didn't clean the litter box.And neither did my sister.....There is something that is called Toxoplasmosis that you have to be careful of in pregnant woman.Personally,If you can find someone else to clean the litter box,I would.

CMT489, I like your advice I think I will tell him that it is better for our baby if he will clean out the box! Sounds good to me LOL!!! Thank you all for your advice my husband and I was talking and I was like I will not give up my cat, I love him to much. We will just be careful when it comes to the liter box and things like that. Do you all think that it is okay for my cat to still sleep with me?
