Exclamation My 6 month old cat wont stop pooping everywhere!

My 6 month old cat Russell has been pooping everywhere but his litter box and wont stop peeing in my bath tub! He's been doing this since my husband moved the litter box about a month ago to a different location in the room to keep the smell down in the house. My other cat, Steve, has no problem going into the bathroom in the cat box but he does! He pees constantly in my tub also. I am taking him to get neutered this week. I'm not sure what else to do. Can you please help? I have a 5 1/2 month old too and hes going to be crawling soon and I just don't want him to end up putting something nasty into his mouth.

Well, the simple answer would be to move it back and see what happens. How often do you scoop the box? What type of litter do you use? How many boxes do you have? These are all factors in whether a cat uses the box or not. I'd suggest adding a box, putting one back in the spot that it used to be and if you want to move it, do it VERY slowly, like inches at a time.

Some more info for you on inappropriate elimination:

Your kitty might just be confused and is looking for the nearest litter box like thing to do their business in.

My kitty right now has an upset tummy, and runny poo, so he isn't making it all the way to the laundry room before he poops. He will often run into the shower, scratch and poop, or will go on a rug, or a basin...etc..etc.

Cats usually scratch the ground before they pee, so I have a suggestion, if you are as close to your cats as I am...when you hear them scratch, just grab the cat, and RUN. Run to the litter box, and put the cat in it. This worked for me.

Another suggestion might be to buy a 2nd litterbox temporarily, put one in the old position, and one in the new, then slowly move the old one to the new.

Some cats don't like sharing a litter box, so having 2 might help you long term.

Did you change the litter brand by any chance? I know years back when I changed litter brands my younger cat refused to use the new litter. As soon as I switched back to the old one the issues ended.

I also agree that putting a box back where it used to be would be worth a try, and a second litter box also. Many cats don't like to share and yours maybe one of them. Good luck and thank you for taking your kitty in to be neutered, it may not help this issue, but it won't hurt either!

I was always told there should be a minimum of one litterbox per cat, because some don't like sharing.

I've had luck with moving a box (more than inches per day) by doing it immediately after cleaning the box. They always seem to want to mark the box after a cleaning, so they are waiting to mark and paying attention to where I put it. If they don't see, I will pick them up and and talk sweetly as I put them in it. You don't want them to in any way think they are being punished by putting them in it.

That being said, I would like to know, isn't pooping supposed to be more of a stress reaction? I remember being told that when a cat started acting up after a divorce. So did my kids.
