So why can I hear that but not the peeping? I have to say, though, that even the song was pretty soft. At first I thought the TV in the other foom was on. I suspect my speakers are going. They've outlived two CPUs now

It's not just peeping anymore. It's more like squawking, especially when dinner is being served.

Well, even if you can't hear them, at least you can see more now. They are not wanting to be under momma as much anymore and she is letting them wander a bit so you will often see at least one baby when you check the site. The last egg seems to have pipped so will likely be hatched in the next few hours.

I really wanted to hear the peeping just before they hatch. But I'll settle for squawking! Was anyone else surprised that there were 4 eggs? I always figured they'd have a clutch of 2 eggs, maybe 3...4 surprised me.

Wikipedia has some good info on barn owls. According to them, 4 or 5 eggs are the usual.

Also says up to a dozen have been recorded. I pity the poor mom and dad owls who have to feed and train a dozen at a time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_Owl

Edit: Just checked the site and we missed the last hatch. Apparently Jody hatched at 3:47 pm California time.

Sadly, Kelly, the third owlet to hatch, passed away this morning. Well, I guess that's nature's way. Some don't survive.

Jody, the last owlet to hatch, passed away yesterday.

Jody

The remaining two look very strong and healthy and are getting bigger every day.

If they can fledge even two a year, that would be wonderful! Sad about the little one, though.
