Taz

Hi,
We spoke this morning & I sent you those Bancroft area local contacts…hopefully he finds someone friendly who turns him in to one of these. Please let us know how things turn out. Sending 'guiding home safely' good thoughts for TAZ.

No news yet. We're heading up again this week, to look. Seems like there are lakes that block the southern and easter part of this patch of woods. Hopefully he didn't leave the general area.

I'm bringing some whistles and posters, hope those would help.

Do they generally seek out roads? I located a big clearing that joins a small lake in the middle of the patch, so I figure I'll give that area a try. Any tips regarding dog behaviour in the woods would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the efforts and good wishes.

i have friends heading up to Bancroft on the weekend, what area were you in so i can tell them to keep an eye out for Taz. He would probably try to find his way back to where you were, or to a cottage where there are people around looking for food.

dog behaviour in woods

Hi,

Dogs will chase whatever animal catches their eye for long distances. Most likely Taz followed something for a stretch before realizing he doesn't know where he is. He will eventually move toward the familiar sounds of people and cars.

Posters are a very good idea. Stress that he is FRIENDLY. This will be important up here as Dobermans are rarely seen here, and unfortunately, most people will be fearful if he shows up at their place. You could also try asking the local radio station, MOOSE FM (613-332-1423) to put a notice in the community announcements for him.

Also post ads in The Bancroft Times and Bancroft This week.

Best place to post is outside of the Harvest Moon Health food store and the Gas Stations, local restaurants.

Fingers crossed…

talk to people

Oh…and the best thing of all is get the word out. News of TAZ has already made the rounds amongst the 'animal' people here, so we are looking out for him. But the best thing would be to personally go into all the stores/restaurants in the area he was lost in with your poster(with pic) and ask after him. The word will get around fast that way for people to be on the look out for a friendly lost doberman.

I found the newspaper ad brought the most calls. Also if you can have cards printed the size of a business card and put picture on the front and info on the back people will carry that with them. Give them to everybody you meet. Don't underestimate the distance a dog can travel...I think that may have been my biggest mistake...large dogs can travel miles in a very short time. The other thing I felt most helpful was an 800# so people would call and not cost them when your home no. is long distance and I would always have that number forwarded to my cell phone. It is so much more difficult when your pet is missing away from your home area...both for the pet and for the owner having large distances to travel to even begin the search.
Good luck with your search this weekend.

any news?

My daugther says she saw a dog that looks like yours without owner running around today in the playground in downtown Bancroft (across from the post office) Monday around lunch. Could this be your dog or have you found TAZ?

Really?? That maybe him!!

No, me and my buddy was in the bush all weekend looking for him. My wife and her sister has been putting up purple poster all across town (I think they put a lot up everywhere).

Can you call animal control if you see him? If you see him please pm me here.

Thanks for all your help.

We got him back!! Drove up to a local pound on the weekend and picked him up. 2 fisherman found him on a quad trail with face full of porcupine quills. They were kind enough to pick them all out and dropped him off at the pound! Sorry for leaving you guys hanging, but I have been busy with work and haven't had a chance to let everyone in on the good news.

He's "super-model" skinny when we got him 3 days ago, but he's been eating and drinking well and gained about 10 pounds in the pass 3 days.

Thanks everyone for your support during tough times.

GOOD NEWS!!
I hope you were able to thank those fisherman personally, how kind they were. Poor Taz must have been pretty desperate by then, face full of quills, hungry as a bear.
GOOD NEWS!! Now we want a picture.

I am very happy you got Taz back. I have a Taz too but he is of the feline kind.
Just one thing. Are you planning on a vet trip? Sometimes Porc quills can cause some real damage. You may think they are all out but pieces can be left in and cause majoy infection.
