I'm going nuts

Hi guys and girls,

This is a most peculiar post but I really don't know who to talk to about this.
It's the kind of thing that doesn't seem like a big deal but day after day, month after month ends up driving you crazy.
And since you've always been supportive maybe you have some ideas for me.
It all started when my old neighbors moved out and the new came in...
They have this terrible habit of leaving their shoes outside their door
We have an average of 10 to 12 pairs daily. And this part of the building is only shared by them and us here. Every time I open the door that's what I see, it looks bad it smells bad. I've asked in many ways the landlord for help (never ever been rude about it though) He tried by leaving messages and notifications (probably not very hard though) They didn't listen and now he's given up, he's even excusing them last time I mentioned it.
They have 2 coffee tables in the backyard and old rug rotting there and a bunch of toys and a little tent under my deck (their apartment has no deck)
For months nights were awful because they don't work so they never go to sleep and they make noise and they have like a 4 year old girl that never goes to sleep before 2 or 3 in the morning (sometimes even later) and she plays at night, running around, yelling as if it was 1 PM
Lately nights have been more manageable (sort of -_- )though because after months I finally brought that up with the landlord but no one will help me with the shoe mess
Now they leave the main door open for 8, 9 hours a day because they're hot or something when there's a sign asking to keep it closed at all times.
Trust me when I tell you I'm not a hateful person but after months and months of seeing and smelling those shoes and all those things I've grown to dislike them big time. I have the impression they're not mean spirited however they lack of respect and consideration when sharing a building. They act as if they were alone here.
I burn incense daily right outside my door so it'll smell nice but the view is so sad and my home no matter how big or small is my sanctuary I don't like going back to a shoe dumpster.
No other neighbor did that before and no one does it except for them. Am I asking for something unreasonable maybe ?
The landlord just won't help me with that. What can I do?

Here's a pic of what I see on a "good day" sometimes they go up all the way to my door

Sigh... Sorry for venting like this but where if not on a board huh?

I would think if there was a fire in the middle of the night people might trip over the shoes trying to get out of the building. I would see if there rules about leaving stuff in front of the door way.

I would let Mulder and Scully pee in them

I bet that would make them pull the shoes inside!!

Of course, I'm joking... (maybe!)

@Barkingdog
Actually originally the land lord told me he was going to handle this as a fire hazard issue but apparently it didn't work.
Last time I mentioned this problem he said "Well they don't have much of an entrance" I was petrified. So now even making excuses for them They do have room to put their shoes inside in a shoe rack or something they just don't want to, and no one else does it anyway. So yes it's a good point you bring out there.

@Rgeurts
hahaha That'd be so aswesome. I'd be secretly rejoicing

Have you called the fire department business # and see if they can help? I called the fire department one winter when my condo would not remove snow from my roof as my living rooming ceiling was at risk of leaking . I had water marks on my ceiling. The fire department called my condo and told them they had to remove the snow . If the people do not have " much of an
entrance" keeping their shoes there is a fire hazard. Are any of the people senior citizen, if so they could fall and get hurt badly. This could be a liability
to the landlord, I would point that out to him.

It's ugly and stinky I'm sure. Also very much a fire hazard. I would contact the fire department immediately and ask for an inspection and warning notice if necessary. It's a shame there isn't room for a small cupboard that you could put a shoe rack inside of. That said, you know those shoe racks that hang in the closet and have little pockets in them, could one be hung on the wall there for shoes to go into? I know it won't help with boots, or the smell, but it would get them off the floor. First plan though, check with the fire dept. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your advice.
I'm calling the fire department tomorrow and I also thought about the hanging things for shoes. Truth is, they do have enough room to put a shoe rack inside or a hanging thing but to be honest they seem to be extremely lazy people so I can try hanging one or 2 for them right outside but I shouldn't be surprised when I find out they just won't use it.
I really appreciate pointing me in a direction I'll start with the fire dpt
Thank you

I would not call the 911 # as this is not an emergency .You could give the people a shoe rack for a Christmas present. Maybe they'll get the hint!

Oh no, I didn't mean to call 911 directly but more like the City and see from there. But before I decided to have a meeting with my landlord and discuss a few points with him.
I've thought about giving them a thing to put the shoes on but there's like a 98% chances they won't use it.
When you share a building and a small one you see, hear, know things and most likely they won't use it because they are very lazy that's why they leave their shoes outside, because it's "too much" effort to do it inside. Yet, I'm willing to try even that if necessary

I know some people do not like to wear their shoes in the house as it get the floors dirty. But your neighbors could take their shoes off then carry them into the house and put them in box or something . Good luck with your landlord , I hope something can be done to solve this . I live on the first floor and people that live upstairs think I can't hear them being really loud , so they'll drop their weights on the floor. I know what you mean about living in a small place with people you do not know.
