Lilac Bush stopped blooming

My folks got a lilac tree several eyars ago and it bloomed in the first year and then stopped blooming afterwards. They thought it had too little sun in their yard so we transplanted it to my yard where there is more sun. Its been two summers already and even though it gets full and leafy it hasnt bloomed for the second year already. The lilac bush that my neighburs have, right on the same spot on the other side of the fence, blooms beautifully.

Any ideas about whats wrong with my lilac bush and what to do to make it bloom next year?

could be a couple of reasons that I can think of off hand, did the bush come from a nursery? they are "force" bloomed before their time, some lilacs will not bloom for the first 3- possibly 6 yrs even though they had blooms on it at the nursery, it takes that long to reach maturity, another reason could be shock, the year you move the bush they usually go into "shock" and won't bloom that season. Or if your soil is too acidic (but usually soil is good for lilacs) some nurseries sell lilacs not zoned to the area you're in.

I learned too,not to over-trim a Lilac, only deadhead it as it finished blooming,or you will not get flowers again.

I would think maturity and/or soil are the culprits. Depending on how much work you want to put in here is a couple of sites for you.......

maybe if I just do the ones by my house.....I have lilac bushes lining my driveway, out back lining one side of my yard and then on the south side of my home lining the full wall.....but if I just did the ones near the home maybe that would be good enough? I'll take a pic of them in bloom next week

The bush is from a nursery and never bloomed after the initial year when it was purchased with blooms already on it... there is not a single bloom so nothing to deadhead...

can it be the soil even if my neighbours bush, which is right next by but seperated by fence has many pretty blooms?

only 4 years have passed since the bush was purchased so maybe we need to wait a few more years...

Yes, it can. If the neighbours have added nutrients to their soil, if their soil was brought in by a different contractor than yours, if you have a "bad" patch of soil with lots of clay, if, if, if........ So many different variable. The only thing you can do is to test your soil. You can get kits at Canadian Tire. They aren't expensive. Then you will know what type of soil you are dealing with.
And it is possible it is just immature.
