Red face I Need Help Again

I wanted to get rid of the Kodak Easyshare software on my computer so I went to Add/Remove and clicked remove to get rid of it or so I thought.

So I did a search for files/folders and it showed 21 files still remaining so I right clicked on each of them and deleted them that way or so I thought.

There are six files that are still remaining and there is NO delete option when I right click on them.

Anyone know how I can get rid of them?

When you right clicked...does it show the properties/path of the files? It should say something like c:/program files/kodak/.....

If you locate the properties by right clicking, go into the path that it directs you to and delete from there.

I recently took out all my kodak software cause I bought a really neat USB card reader that reads the camera card directly from the USB port rather than through the kodak software--theire software program was a pain in the A*&S

When I right clicked on them it gave me 3 options:

1. Open containing folder
2. Copy
3. Extract

So I clicked on "open containing folder" and right clicked on it there and the only options I got were "copy" or "extract".

Three of the files are in C:\i386\DRIVER.CAB and the other three are in C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i38...

So go to the Control Panel, then Add and Remove Programs, then search for Kodak Easyware on the list. Remove. By far the easiest way to get rid of a program and avoids doing other damage inadvertently

It's possible those files are not from the software, but added by whatever program runs when you download from the camera now that the software is gone. I think those are drivers--the interface between your computer and the camera.

That's the first thing I did.

Why do they have the name kodak?

Also before I did all this I had clicked on "Run" and typed in "msconfig" to bring up the System Configuration Utility and click on the "Startup" tab to uncheck the two Kodak entries in there and then used the "Selective Startup" mode.

I just checked that and the two Kodak entries are still there as well.

I just searched my disk and there were no Kodak drivers...so they probably are out there from the software. How peculiar that they weren't removed when you went through the add/remove programs procedure...

Did you check the add/remove to make sure it's not still listed there? Have you tried it a second time?

I don't have Kodak but I've had other programs where a couple of files were left after removing but were able to either remove again or were able to manually delete.

I just checked Add/Remove and it is not there.

It is still listed twice in the System Configuration Utility under the Startup tab.

And there are still six files listed for kodak when I run a Search that I do not have the option of deleting when I right click on them.

If you google the name of the files that remain, do you get any hits on ways to remove them?

When I googled kodak C:\i386\DRIVER.CAB I get one hit in a foreign language.

When I googled kodak C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache|i38... nothing comes up.

I did try that Kodak Clear Utility yesterday but it didn't work. I can't remember what the reason was and I'm too tired to do it again right now.

I'll do it tomorrow and write it down next time.

Rainbow I would just leave those files..they are system driver files which xp stores in that folder. That is a required folder for your system to work so I would just leave them there. You could end up deleting something you might need. Some drivers are shared so maybe just leave the remaining ones.

Good Luck

I JUST had this exact problem with another software where I could not remove them through the add/remove progs in control panel.

Growler is on the right track but used a less precise search term

Google this - uninstall kodak easyshare software

The answer looks like it may be in the first few links - hope it helps

But why do they have just the name kodak only?

Hazel did a search on her computer and the name kodak doesn't come up for anything ....

I sent an email to Kodak but haven't had a reply yet.
