Dog with sore ears and bad smell

Hello everyone..My dog has a sore ear and it has a bad smell.. I think that he might have an ear infection and there is no vet in town(gone on holidays) I would appreciate any help in what I can do for my dog as he is uncomfortable and the smell is awful. Thanks

yup, sounds like an ear infection... you should seek vet care, if your reg. vet is on vacation now is a good time to scout out another for alternate care, especially since there is only one near to you (poor you!)

What kind of dog do you have? If it's a floppy eared dog you (ie cocker spaniel) you should be cleaning it's ears regularily. Bacteria can trive in a wet ear (Hint: melted snow after playing outside). You can buy ear cleaning solution from your vets office.

Don't claen your dogs ears now. The vet will need to do a swab for mites or bacteris, if you wash it away they won't know what to treat the dog for.
