...over at my neighbours. They're away and I'm doing their chores until tonight. When I called up the mares from the big field where they spend the night instead of following the others Strawberry kept hanging around a fence. I went to investigate and found she had foaled early and her colt had somehow found his way to the opposite side of the fence. I got them happily reunited and separated from the rest of the herd. Mom and baby are both doing well.

What an adorable little surprise.

I love the way foals look with their long legs. Almost as long as mom's.

Glad everything went well.

I'm sure your neighbors will be surprised when they arrive home tonight.

Great to hear momma and baby are doing well.

Actually the neighbours already know. I called them this morning to tell them and ask where they wanted me to put the mare & foal. I had already closed off some gates and separated them but it wasn't somewhere they would normally be kept so I wanted to ask where was best to put them. Shifted some horses around and they're now up in the pen where she should have foaled.

Aren't they fortunate that you found them when you did. On the wrong side of the fence the mom wouldn't have been able to protect the foal if some predator had come along. You're the bestest babysitter Gail! They both look adorable.

The little guy's trip to the wrong side of the fence certainly didn't do him any harm or slow down his start at all...he's a little firecracker, ripping around like crazy now. Mom's going to have a hard time keeping up with him
