a small puppy!!

this is just Archer's 1/2 of his back end when I brushed him this afternoon
I usually brush him every day, but with this high humidity it's hard for my hands

Holy catz! You already have a Pack-and-a-half's-worth of hairball, breeze!!! And that's just half his hindquarters? No wonder you have to rest your hands!

But look at that handsome Dude!! And I'm sure he feels much better after all that coat is brushed out!

Do you ever put out some of that fur for the birds in spring? They love dog hair for lining their nests.

You know, there was a woman in this part of the state who used to knit dog-fur sweaters. She usually used the undercoat from golden retrievers, as I recall, but it looks like Leonberger undercoat would spin quite nicely, too!

Breeze, your boy is a very handsome fellow, in coat or not. Is the undercoat easy to strip out ? With my shelties, if they have a soft outer coat it is easy, but if they have the correct harsh outer coat sometimes the undercoat lifts just off the surface of the skin and sticks there, quite hard to groom out, and if you make the fatal mistake of bathing them before getting out any loose undercoat it just forms a matt. Been there, done that , it took hours to finish the job.
Cattle Dogs on the other hand can literally drop the whole undercoat overnight, which our Cuddles did the night before the Royal(biggest show in the Southern hemisphere) She still placed 5th out of 10 but what rotten timing!
I reckon Archer will be feeling wonderful after this groom.

his coat is very thick, and the comb I have doesn't go all the way down to his skin.. the comb that does, is hard for me to hold so it takes me much longer..

if I forget to comb for a day or two it's harder
I normally brush/comb every day

I swear I studied that photo for a full minute trying to see an extra set of paws. WOW. I've heard people say they could make another pet out of the hair but I had no idea it was literally true.

He is a handsome fella.

I finished combing/brushing King Archer last night and got 2 more piles
thought he would go bald but nope.... still cuddly

this usually doesn't happen all at once but with the crazy weather we are having, it's playing havoc with his coat
