puppy humping

I've notice my 10 week old chesssie puppy (male) humping while chewing, Now I know this is unappropriate behavior but is it normal at this age and if so how to correct it?

yupp, its normal at his age, but i would give a firm no, and grab his collar and take him away from the object he was humping. Untill you have established yourself as a leader, he shouldnt do this, because it is a sign of dominace, although once oyu are established, its kinda more like 'fun'

My puppy does the same thing! I thought he was supposed to do that and I shouldn't correct him. I hope it's not too late for me to change that behavior because he does it every time he comes back in from potty time. This was a good question, and glad you posted it because I really had no idea that it should be corrected. Thanks!

Thank's. I knew this was inapproprate behavior, I just didn't know if it
was normal at this age. My last Chessie never ever humped anything, even from day 1. I do remove and redirect. Thanks 4 the advise.

I knew males did this, but Lucky is a female and likes to do it too. I push her away but she is hard to discourage. The spray bottle seems to work best. I guess it's like a cold shower. She gets spad next week so I'm hoping that will remove the urge.

My female golden tried to hump humans at the age of 9 weeks old too!! It is rude behavior and you need to ensure they know it's unacceptable to try and mount you...push them away, get them off you, with a firm NO should do the trick, then walk away, if you can see it coming, then address it before it happens, dogs do this to each other to establish who's the boss - alot while playing, and thats ok...so when they do it to you, it means the same...not ok.

My pup use to do it so often our behavorlist told us not to sit on the floor or place ourselves on the same level as she was, this doesn't give her the opportunity to hump or even think about it...putting a short lead or leash on while inside is a great way to redirect them and correct them while they are puppies....we kept ours on for the first few months inthe house, great way to lead them away from plants, the cat, also a good way to avoid nipping...
