Dog poisoning

Our dog died last weekend. We noticed in the morning that she wasnt herself and was off her food (which she did eat subsequently). At this stage she was alert and walking and no other physical signs of any problems. We took her to the vet and he said she had been poisoned by looking at the colour of her gums. He also said that she would pass blood or start bleeding or vomit. He then gave her an injection and some vit K.
We took her home and she got worse as the day went on. But there was never any sign of her vomiting or any blood from anywhere whatsoever at any time. So we thought it was just working its way through her.

We gave her another injection later on that evening but when we came down at 5am she had passed away.

We are confused about what the vet said might happen if she were to get worse but none of it happened - was she diagnosed correctly??? Why were there no outer physical signs he had mentioned??

I'm so sorry about your dog, hollybolly

There are a number of things that come to mind that can cause internal bleeding. Hemangiomas or hemangiosarcomas, for instance, can grow on the spleen and suddenly burst open, causing a dog to bleed out. Often there are no symptoms or only very mild symptoms until the tumor bursts. How old was your dog? These two conditions seem to be more prevalent in older dogs.

But without a necropsy (an autopsy) and a toxicology there's really no way to tell what caused your dog's death. It could well have been poison.

My deepest condolences to you on your sudden loss You're in my thoughts and prayers.
