Bad Day!

I started the day grocery-shopping,talked a lot to the cashier,had a big bag of birdseeds in the cart.
Walk out of the store to the car to unload the stuff.
OMG,I forgot the the groceries,I had not even packed them
Time for an Alzheimers check
On my way home,I nearly ran over a Squirrel,but only nearly..

Then Rocky to the vet,what a disaster,I bet all of Oakville could hear him howling in the car.
Once at the vet,I can hear him growling,while they are taking blood from his neck.
I was sooo upset,just wanted it to stop.
When he was done,he was exhausted,his tongue was hanging out of his mouth all the way home:sadnce in the house Vinnie attacked him,probably because of the smell of fear,poor Rocky.
I think next time we go to the vet,I'll have to find something to calm him down,maybe even some sort of tranquilizer,it's just too much for him,he is terrified.
Anyway,he is sleeping soundly now and has been for a couple of hours,but Vinnie,his buddy,is still hissing at him:sad:

Chico a vet years ago told me a little secret to help with that...if you have some baby podwer sprinkle some on your hands and give all the kitties a rub down with your hands..they will all smell the same and get along much quicker! It works I do it all the time with Tabitha and Bomber!

chico, Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day May i ask whats wrong with Rocky? Or was it just a routine checkup? Anyway, if anythings wrong with t he poor boy I have my fingers crossed he'll feel better sooon!

Winston,they seem to be fine now,but I'll do that for the next time,they are usually best buds.

Babymomma,Rocky has Hyperthyroidism and has to have his levels checked every 3 months.

Aww, sorry to hear you had a bad day Chico.
I have no advice on taking cats to the vets, mine rarely go and when we do the once a year visit... its all at the same time ( wanna come for a ride in my car on vet day? Sunroof is most definately closed so no one hears the murder screams coming from with in.)

As for your little forgetfulness moment. How is your B12? I recently was informed that I am B12 deficient and will need to take added B12 Vitamins pretty much the rest of my life ( but thankfully my body is getting it now with the B12*phew*) however, I have spent a LOT of time lately reading up on B12 and its really freaky what a deficency can do to us.
Perhaps talk to your Dr. and get some blood tests ran ( although a blood panel alone wont really tell you for certain if you are indeed having a problem absorbing it)

Thank's Erykah,I will look up the B12 and see what it does...I was sooo darn busy talking and the cart was heavy with the bird-seeds...OMG,it was embarassing

Chico I think at one time or another everyone has forgotten something in the store or they will in the future

You can try Rescue Remedy see if that helps Rocky, not only with the vet trips but anytime he gets stressed, perhaps try it out before the next trip in. Or ask if your vet or a tech makes house calls for a simple procedure like blood being drawn where he won't necessarily need an examination everytime.

I haven't used RR but others here have.

Try the baby powder or you could use a little vanilla extract to get Vinnie back to being okay with Rocky. I'm sure Rocky is sending out phermones (special scents only animal can smell) that express his stress & Vinnie is just reacting to that.

Awww, Chico, sorry for your bad day.

I can so relate to the memory problem. I read that seniors are often deficient in B12 so I went out and bought some but I keep forgetting to take it. I should go check to see if the bottle is expired now.

I hope you had a nice cold beer after you got home.

Growler,I think I really have to come up with a solution for Rocky,the stress is just too much for him.
I am not sure,but the bloodtest took a little longer than normal,maybe they had to poke a little to get the vein and it hurt him,I've never heard him growl like that before.
My vet said,they'll take it in the leg from now on,it's easier on both Rocky and the vet(and me!).
A homevisit would be great,I'll see what the vet says,after all maybe he could spare the vet-tech for a bit.

Vinnie was ok with Rocky after a couple of hours and this morning all's well,so far

I don't have the problems taking my kitties to the vet, but Malcolm is a howler in the car and HATES the carrier. He is going to be a handful to take anywhere.

I have 3 different kinds of carriers,even the bag-type(that Rocky can open)I am looking for a small crate-type carrier,but they are all to big to carry,maybe I'll find one in the US when we go.

I am also having my B12 checked this week...

Oh and I have found that there really isn't much of a savings on pet supplies from the US to here, especially at the smaller pet stores and even at the big box ones like petsmart (when I was looking for a stroller, they were actually just as expensive over there). I lucked out with that space age carrier of mine, found it on sale here at Petcetera. I like that there was room for an actual pet bed of theirs inside with all their smells on it.

Dahmer,it's not really because things are cheaper in the US,I just cannot find what I want here and when we are in South Carolina I have more time on my hands to look,no kitties,no Bailey,no cooking

I've had to take my new stray to the vets twice since I got her, and I used treats as a bribe to get her in and out of the carrier and to keep her busy for the ride. (Although the ride is only about 10 minute. if yours is longer it may not help much). she loves thes things so much, she will do just about anything for themIf your cat has a special favourite it might help

I'm checking my B12 because of some digestive issues and some dizziness, saw on one of those medical programs that digestive problems can also be a sign of a B12 defficiency. So my doctor just checked an extra box on my regular bloodwork for sugar and kidney/liver etc.

Oh and I get what my mom calls 'sometimers' very often! You're never too young for that (oh and alzheimers actually starts when you are about 18, it's just not usually diagnosable until you start to show symptoms unless of course they have some fancy gene they can find now- I volunteered in the office and as a friendly visitor at our local alzheimer society for a couple of years and also took aging courses at the college... learned a lot of interesting stuff).

Look at the bright side, at least you weren't part-way home before you realized you didn't have the groceries Now THAT would have been something to be a little sheepish about.....maybe. lol.

ownedbycats(welcome to the club)thank's for your suggestion,but Rocky is beyond caring about any treats once he's in the carrier,it takes 2 of us to get him in there.
He LOVES liversausage,I put a bit in the carrier(had some explaining to do to the vet),but he did not touch it,he just wants out!!

Dahmer,I am going to ask my doc for that test too,explain to him why I am concerned.

BrightEyes,I guess I can do that,coming home WITHOUT the groceries would have sent hubby in to a tailspin

Digestive issues are not really a sign of B12 deficiency as much as a cause... not to get into great detail here about the inner workings of the intestines but B12 is largely absorbed through the small intestines, so if one has IBD ( as I do) then the B12 is not getting absorbed properly leading to a deficiency...

Now that I am aware of this problem I have, and have read up on it as well as talked to pharmacists and my doctor about it. Its really weird to see what can easily describe who I am to a "T" listed on a B12 deficiency list.

Erykah,of all those symptoms,I would say I have 4 for sure.
Fatigue,although it could be explained by me sleeping mostly only 5-6 hours.
Mild depression.
Loss of appetite,not too interested in food,but I eat.
Loss of memory,also I am 64yrs old and some of it can be blamed on old age.

I read a lot,keep up with world news,am a Cross-Word freak,try to keep my brain busy as well as my body,although my Osteo Arthritic(sp?)protests.
