Exclamation A cat that "loves" water.

I am curious if there are other cats who just "love" water.
And I don't mean just watching it go down in the toilet either.

I am talking about our 1 year old Blackie, who was an all black kitten but now is black with orange.
Whenever we turn on any of the taps in our house, Blackie show up out of nowhere. She sits patiently and waits her turn. Once we are done with the water, we leave it on for her. She then swats at the running water, until her paws are soaked and bites at the running water.
I clean and refill 2 tuperware containers each morning, so it certainly not due to thirst.

If the tap is off, she sits and waits for a tiny drop of water to come out, as the photo shows. If however no water comes, she pushes her paw in the faucet, to find some water. Or she cries til someone comes and turns the tap on. It is so comical.

I've never seen anything so unique and wonder if other cats have an obsession with water like our Blackie does.

my calico Mindy use to love the water, my husband aways got a kick out of opening the door while I was in the tub to let her in, she'd start out sitting onthe side of the tub..then sticking her paw in, then jumping totally in the water, we'd take her to my sisters in the summer and she'd jump in the wading pool with my nephew *L* she use to sit on the shower curtain rung (4 inches wide) and play with the water while hubby showered daily...

Yep that's the other place she waits, on the curtain rung. But ours is only 2 inches wide, so it's good she's so tiny and nimble.

If we "dare" close the door where the water is running, she cries pittifully, as if it's the end of the world. So we just don't close the doors anymore. Since it's just my husband and myself, we luckily can do that for her royal highness. lol

Boy and I thought we'd be bored when our youngest went off to college this past summer. I think we had more privacy before we were empty nesters, that's for sure.

Blackie doesn't go in the water, but loves to splash and play as a baby would. It is so cute.

Thanks for sharing.

Thumbs up

I have one more coincidence for you.
I too am waiting to be a grandma. My daughter and her husband are expecting my first grandchild, a boy, any day now. They live in the states, but I will be making the 500 mile trec once he's born.

Good luck to you too.

Lots of cats like to play in water. I have probably 5 or 6 myself that like to slosh it around with their paws. It's a game. There is even a breed that love water. Not for just playing in. They are full in swimming in it. Manx - great breed.

Yep... I have two tap drinkers, they'll run into the bathroom and sit on the counter and meow if it's 'broken' (not turned on). I let them drink out of it still but not as often as before because of all the wasted water.

My male beige tabby "Stinky" has loved water since he was a baby.
He would jump into the shower with me every time, it was too funny!
And he will use his hands to scoop water out of his bowl to lick off.

My cat Kyuubi loves running water too. He likes batting it and stomping on the puddles... as well as drinking from it. He will chase people into the bathroom and wait by the sink... I think I mentioned this before, but some of my lady friends think my cat is a perv.

Thank-you for all the replies.

I honestly didn't realize how many kitties enjoy splashing in the water.
So that would be yet another reason why I am glad I found this forum, 5 short days ago.

Now if only Blackie would decide to use the toilet rather than the litter box.

Thanks again for sharing and making me feel so welcome.
