Companies that recieved contaminated rice protein identified

According to itchmo, these are the companies that received rice gluten that may have been contaminated with melamine. I've listed the products they have recalled so far. Another company, "American Nutrition" was identified, they have not issued any recall yet, you can see their (incredibly crappy) products on their website, here: http://www.anibrands.com/products.htm

Blue Buffalo (Made by CJ Foods) -Spa Select Dry Kitten Food

Natural Balance (made by Diamond) -Venison and Rice Dry Dog Food, Venison & Rice Wet Dog Food, Venison & Green Peas Dry Cat Food, Venison and Rice Dog Treats

SmartPac (Made by Chenengo Valley Foods)-LiveSmart Weight Management Chicken and Brown Rice

I'm a little irritated that Drs Foster & Smith took so long to come out but I have to say that I'm impressed that they are contacting all the customers that purchased this food. I think that's pretty responsible on their part.

Should we just assume that every pet food on the face of the earth will be recalled? This is crazy!

Diamond is blaming American Nutrition too:

It should be noted that the products being withdrawn were not formulated or labeled to contain rice protein concentrate. While the FDA is investigating this, current information indicates this error is a result of a manufacturing deviation by American Nutrition.

I would definitely not buy any pet food with ANY of the following ingredients:

1. Wheat gluten
2. Corn gluten
3. Corn meal
4. Soy protein
5. Rice bran
6. Rice protein or rice protein concentrate

Agreed!!!

See this article from USA yesterday (April 30) which I found the link on www.petfoodtracker.com... most informative and very frightening for both our pets and us!
http://www.usatoday.com/money/indust...rts-usat_N.htm

Here's a sample from the article:
"As of April 26, 2007, FDA had collected approximately 750 samples
of wheat gluten and products made with wheat gluten and, of those
tested thus far, 330 were positive for melamine and/or melamine
related compounds. FDA had also collected approximately 85
samples of rice protein concentrate and products made with rice
protein concentrate and, of those tested thus far, 27 were
positive for melamine and/or melamine related compounds. FDA's
investigation has traced all of the positive samples as having
been imported from China."

It just gets worse and worse. And, it really ticks me off that the media isn't broadcasting much about it anymore.
