Abby, Abby, Abby . . . . over and over
A lot of has happened in the last month or so . . . .
I had cleaned out the garage and left two (2) six foot leather leashes, gifts from our vet, in a pile with some other leashes . . . . and along came Abby and ate the leather ones, leaving only the metal clasps. She had to have surgery to remove the refuse and then also had three teeth removed the other day as well. On top of that, she was mining for rodents in the field the other day and came back to the house with one front paw covered in blood . . . . . . she'd pulled a nail out down to the roots and injured tendons and ligaments as well. So Abby, who inflicts her injuries on herself as opposed to getting sick, is not doing a lot of Epic Journeying right now. However, her surgeon says she's a remarkable physical specimen for almost 12 years of age. She's still full of life and energy. Some adventures and general shots from the last month . . . Below, Abby after her surgery but before her toe incident, wearing a shirt to protect her stitches. Remarkably, she showed zero interest in eight inches of belly stitches. Below, Abby again and Rick milking the ornamental plum for all the pictures he can before the blossoms come off. Below, Keeper and a coyote exchange unpleasantries. I had spotted this confrontation from my home office window just as it was ending. The coyote was trying to lure them away but the fence prevents that. The dogs can't get out and the coyotes, for reasons known only to them, refuse to come in even though they could easily jump that height. Before her surgery, Abby listens carefully for movement in the willows . . . . she can lay like this for an hour or so, only moving her head back and forth before leaping like a coyote into the grass and trapping something with her front paws. Below, the big picture, a Spring morning at Abby and Keeper's place. Below, on a foggy afternoon, Abby and Keeper mousing at home . . . Below, Keeper will be 12 next week and 11 years with us while Abby will be 12 in a few months. Through those years they've worn "cattle" tracks through the lawn, like spokes on a wheel emininating from the deck out through various directions. They'll serve as an ongoing reminder through subsequent decades of who once lived here. Keeper on a late Spring evening. . . . . A few weeks after her surgery, Abby had a brief moment of clearance to go adventuring, here at Chain Lake in southwestern Alberta, before tearing up her leg . . . . a few more weeks and we will be back. This is probably their favourite place, deserted and full of interesting things, winter or summer. Below, Abby heads for cover from a late May snowstorm. below, two-footed Polly enjoys a Spring outing Below, Maude and Abby are best friends. Abby, being the mothering type, will sometimes tuck Maude into her belly. below, Skyler and the rarely photographed Daisy, bestest of buds. Rick C www.goldentales.ca

The photo's are a bit big for me to download them all, rick, though if I keep coming back hopefully I'll see the lot. Delightful anyway. Love the redness of your goldens, your beautiful cat, Polly, the colour of the grass and the light in a couple, how freely Abby seems to be moving beside that lake - going well for an oldie - but she's so norty. LOL. Does she have a death wish, silly old girl? It looks like you could get some decent wind at times there, just reminds me of some parts of our Western District. Where Keeper is off along one of the cattle tracks, the shrub there, is that a lilac? Could be way off track seeing I am in a different country.

Ouch, Abby!!!
Despite the mishaps, she's looking great, as is Keeper. I love the shot of Maude and Abby! And that shot of Polly is like a glimpse into kitty Nirvana!

Your pictures are beautiful as ever Rick, funny how older dogs seem to go back into a puppy hood and do some silly things for a speedy recovery

I love their expressions in that last shot, Rick C! Noses to the wind, face to the sun, enjoying the moment as only a contented canine can!
Plus Abby's sock is very fashionable, of course

Rick, once again outstanding pics of your beautiful goldens, and cats! I didn't know you had cats either. And of course beautiful pics of the scenery you get to enjoy everyday.
I keep hoping to run into you and the Goldens perhaps taking a stroll thru High River....I take the Pitgirls down to George Lane to access the River there. Heading out to K country next weekend with the dogs and hubby to do some hiking and have a picnic.

Rick, we were at the rodeo, I wonder if walked past each other lol.
I was the miserable looking woman, who obviously wasn't having a good time since beef on a bun and beer aren't on my allowed diet list.
