Insulinoma
Well, I now know what was causing Maggie's seizures... She has insulinoma that has spread to her liver.
Do any of you have any experience with this disease? If so, can you please share your stories, advice, and opinions? Thank you in advance for anything you can offer. Marcia

Thank you for the reference. I have learned so very, very much about this disease in the last week. Most importantly, I've learned that it is fairly rare in dogs, so unfortunately, there is not a lot of data. I've also learned that treatments are limited and none offer long term solutions. Seems that each dog responds to different treatments (diet control, surgery, medication) in vastly different ways. The only thing predictable about insulinoma is that it is unpredictable, in a general way.
If any of you have a dog or know of a dog that has had this disease, I am interested in your story.

Insulinoma
Hi-my 8 yr. old airedale has just been diagnosed with insulinoma. Initially treated for low thyroid and put on meds. Right now I am feeding him 4 times a day and it seems to be making a difference. Surgery has been suggested but not convinced thats the way I want to go. Gather this is rather rare and my vet doesn't have much experience with it. At the stage where I would rather have quality of life than undergo a major surgery without knowing whether it would be successful. He deserves the best I can give him, he's been a great dog.
Have you opted for any homeopathic options? Susan |

I did read the link and found out so much, so appreciate input. Originally u/s was suggested and that changed. It would appear that u/s wouldn't necessarily detect trouble area in the pancreas Found that a diet high in protein and complex carbs could make the difference and I was already doing that to keep his interest in food. Gather this isn't a common disease but does affect large, older dogs. Haven't found anything in homeopathic that might work as yet but will share if I do. Thanks
