Keeping a Puppy Healthy!

I just an 8 week Puggle Puppy. He has his first set of shots.

I haven't ever had a puppy quite so young so I don't have any experience. I am just wondering if there is anyone who can advise me of how to ensure that a puppy stays healthy. I know you have to watch out about taking a puppy outside when they're so young and making sure you don't let them near other dogs poop.

I have an 8 month old puggle girl, whose fixed and I am wondering if I have to be super careful about having my pup near her or anything like that?

Thanks!

I tried searching an answer but it seems to be too specific.

That is very important! i learned that the hard way, Enzo got sick from it, i'm not sure what it was called, but he was fine with anitobiotics

If your 8 month old is up to date on her shots they should be fine together, also any other dog you know that is up to date on their shots can play with your puppy and i really encourage that so she gets socialized. Also lots of walks, dont run her to much on the pavement as it is hard on her little joints.

Oh and posting lots of pictures of her on here will keep her very healthy

Pebbles knows you're talking about her! She's sleeping at my feet right now and snoring.

The 8 week is old is meeting the 8 month old on Tuesday. Do you think I should be worried about any shots? When we adopted her we were told she had her first 2 shots.

I talked to 1 vet before and said that my 8 month old did not need any more shots until she was a year old. But another vet after she was spayed said we were overdue for her rabbies and DA2PP (which I have no idea what is).

Does that mean my 8 mo old is up to date?

No, your 8 mo old still needs her rabibies and DA2PP, she should have gotten her first rabbies shot already though, so you should talk to your vet about that, they are supposed to get it around 8-9 weeks and again at 1 year, and then every i think 3 years it is. I'm not sure how often DA2PP is needed

Do you think I should be worried about introducing the new 8 week old puppy before she gets her rabies shot.

Good thing is that Pebs my 8 Mo old just got spayed so she is not going out right now, we're trying to keep her chill and not going crazy so she can heal, and no playing outside with other dogs for sure!

I think they should be ok to meet, i'm sure oyur dog isnt showing any signs of rabbies, although you should try and get the rabbiees shot booked as soon as you can.

Your dog is likely very healthy and you should have no health concerns about introducing them. They are living in the same environment anyway so the pup will be exposed irregardless.

I agree with Ally's advice to make sure you do lots of socialization with the young pup with as many healthy dogs as you can.

Rabies is generally not given as a shot to young puppies so it is possible that your dog has not received it. I personally believe in giving rabies as the only shot (not with any others) at around six months. Rabies is often one of the worst vaccines for dogs so it is important to give it to them at a time when their bodies are not stressed (ie surgery etc.)

Good luck with the new pup .
