Vet Visit Required?
I noticed my cat has a cut on the side of his face, but the wiskars. it's not slowing him down one bit, if i didn't notice it I'd have never known it was there. It was starting to get better, then i noticed today he must have scratched it / picked at it.
does this warrant a vet visit? i dont mind paying the vet, i'm more concerned that he hates going so bad, and gets stressed to the point he wont eat when we get back. Last time i was there we believe he caught a cold from other sick cats there, so i dont like bringing him unless i have to. He's an indoor cat only, i'm sure he got this wrestling with our other cat. http://i.imgur.com/Tzclu.jpg and close up: http://i.imgur.com/UrVij.jpg |

cats do seem prone to wounds abscessing.
the wounds seem to close over before they are healed from the bottom up. if you can keep the wound clean and prevent it from closing over too fast..warm compress...a cloth soaked in a mix of warm water and sea salt.will help keep it open and heal it from the bottom up! there is a great alternative 'antibiotic' that i use called Grapefruit seed extract, comes in pill and liquid form, though many animals dislike the bitter taste in the liquid form. if you are concerned that the wound is not healing well and you cannot treat it at home....off to the Vet! Hope all will be well! |

thanks! some have suggested Polisporin. would that be oK?
Absolutely, if i feel at any point i need to hit the vet, i'll be there ASAP. I'll do the warm compress as well! |

polisporin is OK to use.
it will keep the tissues 'soft' and it does have an antibiotic in it if i remember correctly. |

If it starts getting all full of pus then see the vet.
For now I would clean it out with anticeptic soap and the polysporin. |
