Dog Clippers
Hi Folks!
My first post! This place is great!!!!!!!!! Looooooooong time animal defender, lover and non-eater (vegetarian) I am looking to buy (best price, but quality WAY over price) Professional Dog Clippers. My one guy has rather thick fur, thus I'd need one that stands up to heavy duty work. Any reviews? Suggestions?? Brand preferences? Andis? Oster? Wahl? Kind thanks! Eric |

I'm interested in getting good quality professional clippers too. For years, I've used Oster A-5 1-speed clippers with a regular #10 blade and a 5/8" #10 blade. I love them, but they heat up quickly. Last summer, I spoke with a groomer at Petsmart who told me she uses the Andis AGC Super 2-speed. Still like my Oster, but I thought ok, I'll buy a pair and I can switch off when one gets hot. The Andis is quieter and at first I liked it. But it heats up just as fast and then after just a few uses, I started having problems with it. There are plastic parts in where the blades are mounted that wear out quickly. Mine is now stuck in a drawer and I use my Oster exclusively. Still would like to find a good Professional pair. Sigh!

I have always used Oster (I used to do my grandmother's schnauzer for her) but I think the Oster "fetish" comes from my horse grooming. Most people who clip horses use Oster clippers as well. I highly recommend a two speed clipper since, if the higher speed is not necessary, it helps to keep the blades cooler...

Welcome Eric!!! The groomer at Petcetera uses Oster as well... she likes them. I've no experience with clippers either, except my fiancee, who uses Wahl for his head!! LMAO!!!

Thats funny Catt LOL
I too have been wondering about a good clipper! Been told the guillotene (sp) ones are the best to use cause you can replace the blades if they get dull. The other ones you have to get someone to sharpen them for you and its' harder to tell when they dull. So, tx for posting this topic and hey welcome!

The person we bought my dog from suggested an Oster clipper. You can sometimes get these for cheaper in a paper, or whatever. The new ones cost more than $400 most of the time.

We're talking about HAIR clippers, not nail, right?
I do use Andis for Chocolate. As you can see, he's a big boy and they do tend to heat up. The noise is not bothersome, he just gets tired of standing around so long when I do it outside. |

Oster's
I've used Oster clippers for years -over 30- and they are - for my money- the best out there. As for the blades heating up that is easily controlled with a dip in blade wash and a drop or two of clipper blade oil. The heat is friction from the two metal cutting blades rubbing together.

hahaha @ woody
k, i forgot to add that even tho Choco's hair ain't as thick as others, the blade isn't the best, even from day 1. and using that oil is fun, lol. but now that i've lost it, i'm using good ol' vaseline. |
