New diet is creating problems!
I'm not sure if this post is a food or illness post, so I decided to put it in both. Sorry webmaster!
We moved our year and half old lab - Solo to a new high protein dog food called Orijen Adult Formula. We've gradually eased him into it, and in true lab fashion he's never blinked an eye while eating the new food. We've noticed however, the more Orijen we've introduced the softer his stool is, and on occasion it has been watery. We figure it's because we've changed him to a high protein diet, but are concerned because he is still having soft stool compared to when we fed him high grain food. Other than his soft poop, his mood, and energy levels are the same. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Did your pooch get better after awhile? How long did it take? 1 month, 2 months? Is the answer moving to a different lower protein dog food? Any advice is appreciated!

How long have you been feeding him the new food? Also which one the regular or fish formula?
I have used it for over 1 yr and my guys poops are perfect...they dont even stick to the grass! helped take away alot of issues my lab had! Cindy

Alot of animals have a change in poop when switched to a new food, some even when it is done gradually. The ideal lenght of time during a switch is about 2 weeks.
Is Solo just on Orijen now & how long has it been?

We've been feeding it to him gradually for almost 4 weeks now. I think we're going to go to the vet.

He's 80% Orijen. 20% Royal Canine.

Some dogs can take up to a couple of months to transition especially when going from a lower quality kibble to a high quality grain free. Try adding some plain yogurt to his kibble....make sure the ingredients are only list as "milk ingredients and active bacterial cultures". Or you could buy some probiotics from the health food store to give him instead.

Thanks for the info and advice!
Have you experienced a similar issue with your dog before? Or do you have friends who experienced this problem? I don't want Solo to suffer through discomfort too long. 2 months does sound like a long time.
