A Great Animal Advocate Has Passed

It is with great sadness that I tell you that Pete Harris (Jowlflapper) of Ottawa Valley Cat and Dog Resort and the Puppymill Detective Agency Forum passed away September 11, 2007.

Pete was a unique man with an enormous compassion for animals, an incredible artistic flare, and an unstoppable sense of advocacy for the humane treatment of animals. He was relentless and fearless in criticizing any form of cruelty to animals and had a particular disgust for puppymills and backyard breeders.

Pete was a private, quiet man who had a special love and understanding of animals. He passed in silence and privacy without so much as a ripple. Few noticed his absence and even fewer knew that he was gone until recently which has left me with a strange and unexpected sense of melancholy that seems irreconcilable.

Thank you Pete for all that you tried to do on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves!

Goodbye to a beautiful soul that graced this world before it was ready and left before it was truly understood.

Candice

A Great Animal

My condolences on your loss, I didn't know Pete personally but had heard of his compassion and love for animals. The animal world has indeed lost a true advocate.

I too am sorry for your loss and offer my condolences.

Even though he may not have gotten the fanfare he so richly deserved, in my book, people that help from the heart without needing the accolades are the truest heros of all.

I am so sorry. Pete

Most of the real heros in this life go unrecognized - because as has already been said - they lead the most exemplary of lives, reaching out selflessly to others. Your tribute is beautiful and there are undoubtedly many who feel as you, some just don't know how to put it into words as you have. And think of all those crowding around him and the animals he's gathering to himself right now. That will be his reward - for each good thing he did on this earth was another jewel in his eternal crown. He left a legacy, be sure of that - and only time will reveal just how much.

Thank you for letting those of us who hadn't heard of 'Pete' and his animal advocacy know a bit about him. You are making sure that he didn't disappear without much of a ripple; if we carry on in his spirit (i.e. of caring for critters), then that is a legacy to be proud of.

I knew Pete and he knew my dog Lola well.
I'm terribly upset with this news (I only found out this evening).
RIP Pete, you will be deeply missed.
