Natural remedy for cat's hair balls ?
Paddy was "chocking" on a fur ball earlier , and I don't have anything for this in my house , Monsieur le chat never had this problem and Paddy neither ... until today. Is there something I can give him (like honey? ) or should I buy the stuff from the pet store ?

I have to disagree with the petroleum jelly thing. Because it can never be eliminated or assimilated from the body (same as with mineral oil), it has the potential to cause an inflammatory response. Although the following quotes pertain to constipation, the premise is the same.
From the Merck Veterinary Manual: Quote:

That is a very good site. I bookmarked it.
I read that Petroleum Jelly remedy, but do they mean like vaseline type stuff? I just can't imagine giving them that. Maybe because I can't imagine eating it myself. Vlad is the only one that doesn't have hairball issues. At least I've never seen him having a problem trying to get rid of one, not like Oksana, Maks and Kiska. I've been giving them all Laxatone. Every now and then when I clean the litter box I clean up some um, hairy poops.

do cats actually like olive oil? I use extra virgin cold pressed at home and thought it would have too much of a fruity taste.
I think she meant choking jim |

Allie will just eat grass. I've tried growing it in the house over the winter bust she just eats the new shoots. I don't have to worry about her eating too much, she just stops when she's had enough

Bailey and Smudge have never (yet) brought up a fur ball...they pass them out the back end.... a while ago Bailey got constipated... (I didn't know then that it was from passing fur)... I tried him on the pumpkin diet but it didn't really work (although he loved it)... I got a small bag Hairball kibble... later the same day... I found out it was fur that was plugging him up... poor guy... he's fine now.

I forgot to mention, I also have catgrass in the house and since having that available for them the frequency of the furballs has gone down a bit... although now and then I do get a pile of chewed grass to pick up ...
I buy it at the A&P here for $1.99-$2.99, usually two at a time, I am yet to keep one alive though... once they've eaten all the green it usually turns brown and dies off... must be my black thumbs. The two I have now are doing alright though because they are switching back and forth so one gets a bit of sun and recovery while they eat the other.
