Crystals in urine
One of my grooming customers a 6 yr. old (unspayed) maltese spent night in hosp. but was sent home without meds. What is the normal treatment for this condition and prevention in future?

It depends upon the type of crystals. The most common types are struvite and calcium oxalate. Struvite crystals in dogs are usually secondary to infection so the main direction of therapy is to address the infection. Calcium oxalate crystals are usually controlled by dietary changes and sometimes require the long term use of vitamin B6 and potassium citrate. Other crystals might be urate crystals which may be from liver problems. There are others but those are some some common ones.
