Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter is taking photography in school and brought home a camera Pentex K1000, you know the ones that you have to add lenses and stuff. Well here is the problem the teacher didn't tell her how to open the camera to load the film. I can't find a release or button or anything and I don't want to break it. Can anyone help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a pic of it? Is it an old one? If ya, you pull up on the little metal tab on the shutter speed dial and then pull the whole dial up.

And usually to rewind the film, you press on a small silver or black button on the bottom of the camera and then rewind with the little metal tab on the shutter speed dial again (it should have an arrow to tell you what direction) but you have to keep pressing the button or your film will lock and you rewinding it will snap the film. You know what I mean? You have to release it and keep it released while you're rewinding.

This dial here--------------------------------------------------^^^^

See the metal thing? It lifts up a little, then you pull it and the whole knob comes up and the back opens.

Do you see my little arrows? And when she rewinds the film, she has to press the button on the bottom of the camera and turn the lever in the direction of the arrow, but tell her NOT to pull up on it while she rewinds. If she opens the back, she'll ruin her film.

Why is it at position 5?? Is there a film in there?

Try rewinding it before opening it, in case there is a film in there.

Here is a pic she took of Tucker the other week, its good considering it was her first attempt. She had to develop it too, so she is learning.

It's even better than you think. When I took photography in high school, the cameras were so abused, you got a 90% if the pic was in focus. It was that hard to get a crispy pic.

Tell her to develop as many as she can. They end up being some of the most creative, most personal pics you ever take.

No there was no film in it, who know why it is at 5 its a class camera. Now how to put the film in maybe I'll wait until she gets home after her movie, I let her read what you have written down in case she was dreaming in class then too. LOL

Ahhhh, I love those old Pentex cameras. Theyre so nice and heavy and don't usually break when you drop them...done it lots of times. The only reason i use digital now is for business, for "real photography" I still love the old SLRs. Im sure she will love her course!

I love black and white pics, there is just something about them. Mind you I did it once with my camera and it cost me more to develop them and took longer too.

if I could figure out how to attach a PDF file to this message, I have a copy of the original manual in PDF format. Opps. I tried but the file is too big. If you send me a PM with your email, I can email it to you.
