Good diet for renal failure

My dog has recently been diagnosed with renal failure. Her creatine was 4.1 and her BUN was at 22. The vet put her on Science diet k/d and some adroxyl but now she is rejecting the food. I am very confused by the low protein vs. protein is ok issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what is the best method to reduce her levels but also see her eat???

Over at dogaware.com is a lot of good info by mary strauss about kidney isues.

There is alo a K9 kidney list, and a kidney diet list. If a had a dog in kidney failure, I would do a homemade diet put together by a nutritionist like monica segal or sabine contreras.

The problem is really the phosphorous and minerals, rather than the protein itelf. And in moderate kidney disease, protein is actually important, fed correctly. One dog I know of managed very well with a raw diet for years, though I homecook here.

Be sure that lyme has been ruled out, and there are no igns of infection. Kidney disease can be acute, and after treating the infection, the kidneys can function well. This type of kidney disease is different than long term kidney failure, where the bet you can do is manage.

Best of luck to you.
