My dog is constantly licking her butt

I have no idea why but my dog who is now 3 and is a Rotti/Shepard, is licking her butt uncontrollably.
She doesnt drag her butt around on the carpet just licks it alot.

WOndering if anyone else went through this or if anyone knows.

She is eatting fine, hasnt lost weight, still very active and doesn't seem to have personality change but just relaxing she is licking constantly

Worms? Anal glands? Allergies? Food?

Thanks

Hello Jusice&Sky. Welcome to the board .

I would suspect parasites or impacted anal glands but only your vet would be able to confirm this. If you took a fresh stool sample to your vet, he/she would be able to test for parasites.

Hope this helps a bit.

ps. You wouldn't happen to have any photos of your girl you'd like to share with us, would you ?

Wow, Justice is a real cutie-pie too. They look very well cared for and I love Sky's coat. Would she be a Husky/Shepherd?

They can never be too well cared for, just real lucky to have a great home such as their's. Glad you've joined the board, looking forward to more pics and stories of them .

Hi - just responding to your dog's situation...
Has your dog been wormed recently? Is the dog interacting with other dogs or taken to dog parks, on walks where other dogs have been, etc? My first suspicion would be worms irritating the anal area.
If your dog is not "scooting" I don't know if I'd suspect impacted anal glands. Does your dog have soft stools alot? If so, then the anal glands might not be sufficiently depressed (harder stools help depress anal glands naturally).
In any case, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a de-wormer (e.g. "Drontal") for your dog from your local vet. They're fairly mild to the dog's system and would eliminate that from the equation before suspecting anything more drastic.
Is the anal area red or swollen? If so - take the dog to the vet!
Hope this helps your beautiful dog!
Blessings,
Belinda
p.s. if you worm one dog, you should worm them both since they live together and share more than just property!

Beautiful dogs, J&S! Welcome to the board!

Sounds like all my suggestions have already been covered, so I'll remain atypically silent for a change on the butt-licking...

Looking forward to seeing you and your beautiful canines in the forums!

By the way, have you changed food recently and how long has your dog been doing this?
Blessings,

Smile

Glad you found out what the problem was. Impacted anal glands are no joking matter in dogs. I know of one beautiful GSD that was put down because of a chronic problem with that.
A diet with more bones and fiber would help your dog(s) have harder stools and depress the anal sacs naturally. Dogs on raw diets usually have no problems with anal sacs, etc.
Happy all is well now.
Blessings,
Belinda
