Judge Nixes Kenner Law Limiting Residents To 4 Pets

Judge Nixes Kenner Law Limiting Residents To 4 Pets
Property Rights Violated, He Says

POSTED: 1:02 p.m. CDT May 16, 2003

KENNER, La. -- Lawyers for the city of Kenner say they will appeal a judge's ruling that the city cannot limit the number of pets owned by residents.

The New Orleans suburb has a law that says residents cannot own more than four pets. On Thursday, Judge Alan Green ruled that the law is unconstitutional because it violates residents' property rights.

City attorney Kurt Garcia says he will appeal. In the meantime, he said, he will suggest that Kenner code enforcement officers put away their animal citation pads until the appellate court rules.
