Parrot Mountain Pigeon Forge Tennessee

We took some time off from hiking the Smoky's to see Parrot Mountain. Tons of birds, don't have a clue what the official name of any of them is but I will start off with my two favorite birds in the entire place
This first one was a rose-breasted something or other. She was so friendly, I wanted to take her home

Next the Kookaburra. The color isn't anything spectacular like the parrots, maily browns and lighter browns, but I thought they were so striking. Too bad I didn't get any good shots of them. Nicest looking birds in the whole display. They gave us a sample of their famous laugh also.

the rest of the bids I have no idea what they are called, just took pics of anything pretty

Beautiful birds, Lukka'sma! Love all the colors! That pale blue one is absolutely striking.

So how did the birding trip go in general? Did you see a lot of wild birds, as well?

Rain, rain and more rain. We got soaked each and every hike we went on. Started out dry and by the time we got half way into every hike it poured, and I mean poured. Had the worst time of my life and hope to never get caught in the rain again. You can see some drops of water on the cages in these photo's too. It just never let up.

had a pileated woodpecker (which tops my list of must see birds) fly right by the car, saw it for about 4 seconds, heard one several times but never saw one again after that. Nothing else was brave enough to fly in the downpours, lots of turkeys in the wee hours of the morning though.

Hmmm...you need to come here in mid-May. Pileateds, warblers, tanagers, buntings, and all the little flying denizens in between Plus all the dogs you need to get your daily minimum requirement of setter hair!

Glad the pileated woodpecker cooperated for you, anyway! They are certainly magnificent birds!
