I agree crappy service gets a crappy tip for sure, but when i get service that goes above and beyond they will get a really good tip, service that is good but nothing special still will get at least 15%

but you have to take into account that on a weekend... servers CANNOT sit there and talk to you.. i LOVE talking to my tables... we often have very good conversations... but i hardly get to do that with my tables on the weekends... if i'm REALLLLLLLY busy, and a table is waiting ( i always go to the table 30 seconds after they been sat) i go over to the table, appologize and say i will be with you in one moment... i think the majority of guests that come into east sides are understanding, like if i say that to them.. they appreciate me coming over at least.. cause that is what i would want my server to do..

i hate bad servers too... and i also hate when people blame US for what the kitchen did wrong... or the bar... its NOT my fault... i understand being pissed, but not tipping ME for it... thats not fair... i still give you the service you want.. and when the kitchen does something wrong, we will make you another dish!!!! no problem...

here is a story about a server i work with:

this lady was pi**ed about the head on her beer ... and ashley, the waitresses name, was trying to ask her a question ( would you like me to get a new one?) and the lady said " SAVE IT, i don't wanan hear it"

then, at the end of the night, the lady was trying to "appologize" about the outburst, and ashley just replied, " SAVE IT, i don't wanna hear it... i was trying to be nice to you and you disrespected me.. etc etc" her husband was aggreeing with ashley ( notting his head) and the lady said nothing after that!!

Well Heidi, having been a waitress myself, actually you should complain to the waitress and give her a chance to rectify the problem, either by taking your food off the bill,or get you another meal.Waitresses are supposed to make sure everything is fine,it's up to her to make sure you leave as a satisfied customer. But there are some customers, few and far between, whom you just cannot please.
Now,I only worked 2 days a week, but I thouroghly enjoyed it,we had a great time at work,I miss it sometimes, but still see some of the customers I knew for 20yrs.Every Christmas we each used to take home tons of choclates and a couple of hundred $$$we got as Christmas-gifts.
Aside from the money, doing waitressing is great for the hours,I never could handle working 9-5,5 days a week...I also had 2 sick kids and it was never any problem getting time off.
Rex,I've been to Eastside Marios here in Oakville for lunch and the young man waiting on us was great, although he was super busy and could hardly move because of baby-chairs and strollers.

Maybe i said that wrong,i would bring it up,but not blame her or take it out of her tip..I would for sure say something if my food was not right.

rexdoggieowner - please don't tell me that the 2 ppl sitting at table #4 are your ONLY customers in the store... i'm sure u serve more than one table at a time, hence the "hectic" environment, no?

every so often (it turns out to be annually), my girlfriends and i get together for dinner... a looooooooong dinner in a restaurant lasting a good 3 hrs, we're there to eat AND socialize... so tables are cleared after dinner, a few have some alcoholic beverages (cha-ching )... more talking... and finally we settle on desert. so what? we're there not only to eat, but socialize, as i'm SURE this occurs in EVERY restaurant (look at where blind dates start off). we're not there to make sure we carry our a$$es off the chairs and into mcdee's for sundaes bc u feel u'd be getting more tips from the next couple.... sorry! (oh, timmy's and "houses for coffee"... stick imho of *barf* coffee, no TY!)

2 bucks on a 30? nah!! i could take that home and do laundry!!

Cactus Flower - how do they get mediocar service when they pay the tip AFTER the service is provided... oh, this brings me back to the topic of waitresses in strip clubs... so u do this, or let the guy do that, does it ensure a good tip? u never know! catch my drift?

Luba, next time i'm in the elevator of my mom's condo and i hear a "could you please press "9" for me?" i'll reply w a "sure... that'll be 5 bucks!"

oh oh! and every time the conceirge there unlocks the main door for me so that i dont have to find the key or dial upstairs, i say THANK you, no tip... is that ok? or would U tip?

Chico2 - AGAIN, i'm stating i don't always tip "lousy," i tip as i please and as my pocket book can handle... i don't go out on a weekly basis either, so i'm sure no one would remember me and beside t.o. is too big to go to one place more than once.

LADIES! re: the 2 dollar tip for 30 dollar meal, it was a HYPOTHETICAL EXAMPLE!

Heidi, tipping should be ibolished! employers should pay "full price" for their employees. end of story!

*****I always believe this. if you can't afford to tip much, don't be embarrassed, last thing u need is for the waitress to give you a dirty look, THEN i'd feel like taking it back... it's like the parable in the bible about the poor woman who gave 10 cents to charity while the rich man gave barrels and barrels of gold. who's donation was worth more?

whow! aggie's remembering grade 5 religion class!

back to Heidi... when I went to the hairdressers in Poland (they did a STUNNING job... i could post pix ), my mom gave me money to tip the lady... boy was she ever surprised! even felt some what embarrassed but at the same time looked as though i had spit on her... she seemed a bit insulted... eek, what an uncomfortable situation! ok, ok... lol

over and out!

Because they are already known as being lousy tippers. They've been in there before, or might even be regulars.

people who are known for leaving little or no tip often get only mediocre service as a result.

doh! my bad, i guess i've never actually received "excellent" service so i don't visit the same restaurant that often, then AGAIN, i'm not Always a lousy tipper.....

uhhh, mental note to self, this is not a personal thread, it's based on general experience...

Seriously?? That is so sad.

I've received excellent service as well as lousy service. I am just as vocal about voicing my COMPLIMENTS as I am my complaints, too. I think that is important.
You should see their face when I ask if I can speak to their manager. It really sinks (even if there is a smile painted on top). Then I add "I want to file a compliment", and it just lights up. If I have great service I always let the manager know. Some people only speak up when it's a gripe.

15 year old kid ?! well.. since i said i was a server.. you would assume i'm over 18 haha... what made you think that ?!

i guess you never know till you become a server... like the saying goes " you never know untill you put on another man's shoes and walked around in them"

yeah, that sucks if you haven't recieved any "excellent service" cause that is what makes the dinner experience 100 times better

ok, rexdoggieowner... i think u've actually taught me something new today.

each server takes care of 4 tables? but there are MANY more tables in the restaurant... correct?

we usually start either in the early-mid afternoon (2-3:30) or late evening (9-9:30) so the idea is that we, hopefully, don't cause too may line ups....

(ps, hi iRONKNiGHT *waves* lol)
