SOMEONE/ANYBODY can you PLEASE answer this question

3 days ago I saw a female dog laying on the side of a dirt road. Nothing around but woods. She was laying beside a bowl that someone had placed there with her. She had very swollen mammory glands so I figured she had pups somewhere in the woods. I watched and she never went to them. She jumped in my car when I opened the door...very friendly. I left and got a bag of food and 2 liters of water...came back and she drank every last drop of the water (laying down) and didn't eat that much food. She never went to the puppies so I left. I came back two days later and she was laying in the same spot. I again opened the door and she jumped in. I searched close by and did not find any puppies and she did not go to any. She kept laying down in the same spot. I fed and watered her again. It didn't look like pups had been nursing so I felt her breast and barely pressed and milk expressed. I thought if pups were nursing she would have been dryer than that. I had to make a decision of leaving her there in the woods...alone and weak (and so so hot) or take her....so to save her...I took her. Now I'm so worried tonight that there might be puppies out there somewhere. What do you guys think? Would she not have been with them if she'd of had them and would she be so engorged if she had pups? I don't know...I'm confused. She needed attention though because she had a huge cut on her shoulder that had started to heal but she wasn't walking around very much. She seemed either sick or just miserable. Should I go back and look for pups, take her back or what? Any help would be so appreciated.

First off you need to take her to a vet now. Laying down same spot for several days and drinking 2 litres of water @ one time also while laying down spells trouble. She needs a vet ASAP.

Are you sure she's had pups already? Newly nursing mothers usually will not leave their babies for any length of time at all. Does her belly look swollen? She maybe due anytime now or the pups may have died inside they only way to know is to take her in.

Oh thank you so much. I'm not sure of anything really. She doesn't look pregnant but then again, I don't know how long she has been without food. It at least makes me feel a little better to know that IF she had new born puppies somewhere, she would be more likely to be laying with them rather than elsewhere. I will carry her to the vet. I just didn't want to leave baby puppies out there somewhere just to die. Thanks.

The vet should be able to tell you if she has had pups already, if so then you can go alooking

for the vet visit

 I agree with the rest of the posts here.
In my experiance as a breeder, I know that my girls refuse to even go out for a pee when they have just had puppies. This girl sounds like she's in trouble.
Good for you for helping her.
Please let us know what the vet said. Good luck.
