Albon dosage (worm problem!)
I am taking care of the 3 litters of kittens. I gave the one litter of white kittens that had the crippled kitten in it to the shelter. I still have the grey kittens and they are doing okay. The orange kitten that had diarrhea and a swollen butt got a little better using Albon but then it just stopped getting better. Now my other cats all have worms! I told my mom to NOT LET THIS SICK KITTEN PLAY WITH MY CATS but I'm sorry but my mom is dumb and didn't listen. So now I have to treat my other 7 cats for worms. I am going to get medication for them from the vet, but for the grey litter of kittens outside I want to deworm them myself. I'm already going to be paying a fortune for medication from the vets.
Okay, the kittens outside are 6 weeks and I guess a pound or two? How much Albon should I give them? The same amount as the kitten thats 2 weeks older and abut the same size? Albon will treat round works right? I was cleaning the litterbox and one of my cats doesn't bury his poop and I could see these white stringy worms crawling all over his poop so I know it's roundworms. So I just want to treat the outside kittens too.

You should be getting this info from the vet. Do you have an accurate digital scale to weigh them?

No but I am getting help from my vet tech friend Tara. She's giving my 7 cats + the one kitten a dewormer. I just have all this leftover Albon in a container and if I can deworm the outside kittens with that it'd be great. The shelter is so so busy anymore that I can only get to talk to them sometimes, and they are doing the best they can with helping me with all these kittens, but I don't think the albon worked for Waffles (the last kitten inside) but if it will deworm my outside ones it wouldn't go to waste.

Albon (Sulfadimethoxine) does NOT kill roundworms. It is a sulfonamide antimicrobial agent - basically, it is an antibiotic which also inhibits coccidia which is a parasite.
Panacur (fendbendazole) kills roundworms, but not albon. I agree with Love4himies - I would contact your veterinarian. Hope that helps.

Okay I wasn't aware of that. I had called up the shelter for help before and said the cat was scooting his butt and had diarrhea and I thought he had worms. He was also bloated and his butt was swollen and really red. They just said they were leaving me medicine in the front office and I picked it up and was giving it to him and it only worked a little. I figured it was just a like a broad spectrum de-wormer and parasite killer. Ack!
I called up Tara and she brought me home something called Nemex. I had to give my adult cats it in pill form and the orange tabby Waffles it in a liquid form. She kind of told me what you guys basically said that albon was for like, something with similar symptoms but not the right thing. She got the liquid Nemex for free because they just let her squirt it into a vial and bring it home for me. There's alot extra for that, so since that ones the right one I can de-worm my outside kittens with that one if she says it's okay. I wish I had known Albon was for something else and I would have put him o n that AND a regular de-wormer to treat both possibilities!! Will treating the orange tabby make his butt not swollen and his stomach not bloated? Or do I need to get a different medication for those? With the worms gone I assume he should go back to normal, right?

We are making a lot of suppositions at this point, so it is not possible to prognosticate at this point. With empirical medicating of kittens, it is a 'wait and see' situation. If the clinical signs worsen or do not rapidly improve with the medication, then bringing in a veterinarian would be an excellent idea.

Can someone direct me to some pictures of different types of worms that were expelled from a cat? I am treating my cats with nemex and I suppose it's working but after looking for into it I'm not sure I properly diagnosed my cats. I think it might have been tapeworm. But I'm still fairly sure it was roundworms because the medication is working and everyones feeling better so I doubt I was wrong.
The worms I found were about 3/4 inch, white and kinda skinny. They had like suction mouths or something and were crawling all up and down the baggy I put his poopy in. What can I do at home to keep checking for worms? Is it okay if I like, smoosh up their poop and check myself? Fecal flotation costs 18$ at the vet and I could probably get Tara to do it for free, but in the mean time I want to see some pictures of different worms in their various stages. .... Also.... Since I'm dealing with all these worms and whatnot, am I supposed to be getting anything done to me to test for worms? Since I know that some worms can be transmitted to humans and I'm super clean with washing my hands and stuff, but I have not been wearing gloves threw all of this. I'm not actually touching the poop but I'm not sure if I could have gotten something. Does that ever happen?

Ok. I laughed! I laughed hard!
I would just like to say... you probably should take the cats & kittens to the vet, one more time & add... you should probably also get your self checked while you are there too. : Cause you all probably got worms & God only knows what else since you still don't know what the cat, kittens have. LOL!!! Do a quick search for worms in humans. |

I agree on bringing a vet to the picture here for the sake of the kittens under your care.
I've dealt with resistant parasites in kittens and that does not necessarily mean you got worms but it wouldn't hurt to deworm yourself once the cats and kittens get their treatment. I've rescued many cats and usually they present the typical rice like looking parasites and I take them to the vet. Since you have many kittens maybe you can negotiate a good deal for all of them because we know it's not easy to pay the vet bills but I think it's necessary in this case. My former vet (former because I moved) used to treat a litter for one price since they were rescued as a way to help me help the kittens. It's good that you have a technician to help you but now that one of them has a swollen butt and more problems it's way better if you have them be seen by a vet. It's all a matter of luck and search I had to go way off my area to find a vet that would help me with my rescues. You probably know that with certain treatments for worms you have to keep them very well hydrated. I really really hope your kittens and cats get all healthy and parasite free very soon.
