Dry dog food recommendations to keep struvite bladder stones in check
One of my new rescues an 18 pound 8 year old Bichon/Cocker cross had bladder stones which required surgery 4 years ago. Right now she is on medi-cal/royal canin urinary SO. I would like to change to a higher quality food. Is there a better alternative to keep this issue in check?

Not sure if Toby's stones were struvite now, it was 6 years ago he was operated on. I've had him on Hills Science Diet UD ever since and he hasn't developed more stones.

The Medi Cal is keeping the stones in check...but when you read the ingredients...YUCK...lots of fillers. I am so hesitant to switch as it is working but, there has to be a healthier alternative.

My last dog and the dog I have now hate Hills Science Diet dog food. Marty had sturvite crystals and I can't feed him any food that has yeast in it so I feed him canned food now and that is helping. One vet told me it common for small white dogs to get sturvite crystals , and Marty's vet disagrees and does not think Marty will keep getting sturvite crystals.

That was the only food that worked for our cat. When I tried to switch her to a better food the crystal problem reappeared. Try to find out what the active ingredient is that is controlling the crystals and then see if you can find out the level of that ingredient in other foods. Sorry, I've lost my details, but I found, in cat food, only the Rx diets had it in high amounts.
