Boxer has bladder tumor & e- coli

We gave home to a boxer about 6 month ago. Bodhi is about 9 years old. He was urinating blood, took him to vet to check his bladder - he has a bladder tumor - and tested positive for e-coli. The vet has him on BAYTRIL 136 mg twice a day. Can my Dalmation contact e-coli and/or can humans contact it? How? My Dalmation is going to be 12 years old and has difficulty walking. She is taking Previcox - she is getting worse - and you animal lovers know how attached I am to her. Any thoughts on either dog? My vet said it was up to us on how much money we want to spend on the boxer. Anyone go through this? thanks kathy
