vaginitis?

I noticed today that Layla was licking herself. I dried her off and noticed what seemed to be a clear, maybe yellowish mucus on the paper towel.
Do you know if this is normal or could it be vaginitis?
She has had a UTI before AND vaginitis once too I believe.
She has a "tucked up" vulva as the vet describes it and can trap dirt and moisture.

Is there any ways to prevent these kinds of things?

Your suggestions and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

When Emma got vaginitis, we washed very gently with an antiseptic solution, Baxedin .05% (available at any pharmacy). It cleared up within a few days. Our vet told us this isn't unusual with pups and usually doesn't re-occur once they are spayed.

If she has a "tucked up" vulva she is going to have ongoing problems. You have to make sure to keep the area clean as bacteria develops in the extra folds. Has she been spayed yet?

Spaying doesn't always help, unfortunately...Jaida's now had two infections (just getting over one now) and her genitals are also small and "tucked up"...and both infections happened after she was spayed. I'm really not sure how to avoid these kinds of things, unfortunately. It's cleared up pretty easily with antibiotics, but I'm hoping we won't have to put her on meds every coulple of months. We suspect that lying around in dirty water may be contributing to the problem, but she's such a water-loving dog I'm not sure how to prevent that either.

Layla has also been spayed like Bendy foot. I am worried as well that this will continue as it has been her second since she was spayed also.

I will try very hard to keep her clean and dry. Is there anything you can do to help it clear up on it's own or is it strictly antibiotics?
I wouldn't assume that urinary food would help? I want to stay away from vet foods as I don't trust the quality.

I haven't called the vet yet, but I probably will tonight if it must be treated with antibiotics.

I'd ask about the meds. Jaida's actually had vaginal swabs to determine the type of bacteria/infection on both occasions (her infections were pretty bad, really goopy...I mistook the licking and scooting for anal glad issues...wrong-o). While we do clean the outside, I'm not sure if external cleaning is enough to deal with an infection thats high up in the vaginal canal...I would be inclined to at least call the vet...once it progresses it obviously is uncomfortable for them, poor things.

I took your advice and just called my vet.
They said to kkep her clean and monitor her over the weekend and see if it continues, and if it does to give them a call Monday.
I hope they are right.
I will do my best to keep her clean and dry and watch for more discharge over the weekend.
I'll call them Monday if there is more or if she keeps licking.

Thanks for your advice and hopefully my vet is doing the right thing. I always feel bad for her when she gets something like this...

my spayed female cattle dog has had it 2 times the first it cleared up with metronidazole the second we thought may have been a UTI and used clavamox. I just make sure she says clean, I wipe her every few days with baby wipes. Amber
