Starwood Hotels to allow dog guests in the U.S., Canada
Traveling dog owners need to no longer worry about what to do with their dogs when they go on vacation.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. said its Sheraton, Westin and W hotels in the United States and Canada will now welcome dogs. The program, called Starwood Love That Dog, will include custom-designed oversized pet pillows for the dog that are similar to the hotels' human beds and guest room design.

Each hotel will also offer food and water bowls and temporary ID tags with hotel contact information. Some of the hotels will also offer dog robes, leashes, collars, toys, bones and a turn-down treat on the dog bed. The five W hotels in New York City will also offer in-room dog massages by a licensed dog massage therapist.

"We intend to become the most dog-friendly hotel company in the land, and not just allow dogs to stay, but actually pamper and spoil them," said Barry Sternlicht, Starwood's chairman and chief executive, in a statement.

Starwood cited studies that showed 76 percent of dog owners would be more loyal to a hotel chain that accepted dogs.

Starwood has eight hotels in the St. Louis area: Sheraton St. Louis City Center Hotel and Suites, The Westin St. Louis, Four Points by Sheraton St. Louis Downtown, Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel St. Louis, Four Points by Sheraton Fairview Heights, Sheraton West Port Hotel - Plaza, Sheraton West Port Hotel Lakeside Chalet, Four Points by Sheraton St. Louis West.

White Plains, N.Y.-based Starwood Hotels and Resorts (NYSE: HOT) is one of the largest hotel and leisure companies in the world. Its brands include St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Sheraton, Westin, W and Four Points by Sheraton.
