Second Guessing-Canine Pancreatitis or Foreign Object?

My dog has been in and out of Vets because she stopped eating. After getting an ultrasound the doctor had pointed out that there was something square in her stomach. I suggested it could be a liver treat because she had been eating only canned food leading up to the examination.

It wasn't until later that I began to get concerned because she had been fasting for 12 hours prior to the exam and it was more than 2 days before her exam that she had a liver treat.

When I brought this up to the Vet they didn't seem to think this could be a problem because the ultrasound specialist concluded this was a liver treat.

It seems strange my little dog would have ANYTHING in her stomach. Especially a digestible, probably softened liver treat.

Is it possible all her problems could be a foreign object? Should I ask again to maybe have an xray done? Or, is it silly for me to think these Doc's may have misdiagnosed?

Symptoms include: bad breath (now gone due to antibiotics!!), loss of appetite, weight loss, lethargy, REALLY high liver protein #'s

Diagnosed with pancreatitis, possible hepatitis, microvascular displasia, and one other one that I am at a loss for. Ginger is on Metronidazole, Hepato, Clavaseptin, and Denosyl. These seem to have bettered her to a certain extent although she decided to stop eating again a few days ago. Vet followed up with another month worth of Meds. Ginger is a 2 year old min pin. Physical exams are unremarkable.

So sad for you and Ginger, she is such a young dog. Hope you and your vet can get her feeling better soon.

Is it possible Ginger got a treat from another household member, or found a stray one under the corner of the couch? If you are confident that could not be the case, I would check, regardless of whether the square object might have been a treat, whether your vet has identified a cause for why the stomach did not empty for at least 12 hours, and possibly 2 whole days. Normal is closer to 30 mins.

Water isn't the greatest simulator of the stomach, but have you tried putting the treat in a glass of warm water, maybe acidified with vinegar, to see how well it holds its shape?

How was the pancreatitis diagnosed? If Ginger does indeed have pancreatitis, she should really be on pain meds as well.

It's always possible for a mistake to be made?? Sometimes it's a misinterpretation?
