Question Denta Stixs & Tartar control...

Just need to know other opinions on these "teeth cleaning"
doggie treats (Denta Stixs & No Name variants).
Do they actually work ? Are they worth the price...

Thanks in advance for any input...

I just bought Dingo Dental Sticks and am curious myself as to whether or not they will work. I also bought doggie toothpaste and tried it out once so far. I think I like the doggie toothpaste better since I can actually reach in there and scrub his toofers lol. Have you tried any products yet?

We never had any luck with the Dentabones. Since I started brushing the dogs' teeth with enzymatic toothpaste, though, we've seen a marked improvement!

Dental bones/sticks all they seem to really do is push tartar up under the gums.

Brushing is definately the way to go!

It doesn't have to be a bad thing. Most enzymatic toothpastes are chicken flavoured and this can be really appealing to your dog. Introduce this slowly and just let him lick some toothpaste off the toothbrush the first few times. Give lots of praise and keep it a positive experience.

You will save yourself hundreds, if not thousands in vet bills by brushing your dogs teeth!

I swear by raw bones. They are cheap (I can usually get them for free) and they work like a charm.

Brushing with a doggy toothpaste has also become part of our nightly routine and works great.

Another cheap and effective alternative is carrots. Depending on the size of your dog, you can give half or a whole carrot to snack on every day or twice a week, whatever.

My sister-in-law has horses and she goes to buy the #2 carrots and just shares them with her dogs. Can't get much cheaper than that and they work great.

I wouldn't bother with the denta sticks, they are expensive and I'm sure the ingredients list is not anything impressive. If you can't do brushing then raw bones that provide good mechanical friction on the teeth would definitely be the next best thing, the nutritional value is great and its what dog teeth are designed to work on.

Sweet. Marrow bones are one thing we can have for cheap.
Our neighbourhood butcher has smoked marrow bones @ $2 each.
They do smell, but what can u do...

I give my dog a Greenie once every few days and brush
his teeth a few times a week.
But I take him to the vet every 6 months to get them to really shine.

I wouldn't give smoked, it makes the bone brittle and could cause slivers to lodge in his gums, Brina (lab/shepherd) is a heavy chewer so I freeze her marrow bones, I buy two very large ones at Metro grocers in the meat department (suppose to be for soup) for about 2.50 a pk, never buy the ones sliced in half, make sure its a complete circle, the butcher watches for me and then brings out some real meaty ones, guess he got tired of me asking for whole ones *L*
