Talking New Pics of the animals....

A new pic of Angus, Brier and Bailey

We nearly lost Brier on Valentine's Day

His collar got wrapped around Angus' lower jaw as they were playing and he was basically strangled!

It was the most traumatic experience of my life. We were trying so hard to get them untangled but it was so hard. We couldn't find the clasp and it was so tight to his neck that I couldn't even get a finger behind it.

We thought he was dead. It was so scary. He actually lost consciousness; he looked dead. It was just awful. We managed to get a knife and cut the collar off. He fell to the floor and I had to give him a few breaths before he came around! Luckily he survived and is perfectly OK.

So I thought I would post some recent pics of the crew.

Oh my god that happened to my dogs. They were playing, one had a choke collar on and it got stuck in the other dogs mouth and it was very traumatic trying to get them apart cause they reacted badly. Never again wore a choke collar, lessoned learned. Wear buckled collars.

Holy catz, Carolyn! How scary! Glad Brier is okay!

Beautiful pics of your crew, btw!

Marty11, it happens with leather collars too , especially when the collar a dog grabs hold of is a softish leather and not skin tight. The other dog only needs to roll in play and you have that figure 8. I had two cattle dogs trapped like Carolyn's pair and have never left collars on dogs since then. Sorry you all got such a scare, Carolyn. With mine I had just decided I'd better rush for a knife when Freckles collapsed and rolled the right way to untangle Snoopy's jaw. With them trying to fight I couldn't have decided which way to untangle them myself, that's for sure.

Lovely photo's by the way!

I also had the same thing happen years ago. I had forgotten all about that until now. Glad Brier came through okay. When they start to panic everything escallates doesn't it. Great pics though. Thanks for the gentle reminder!

Yes, it certainly was scary! I had a hard time sleeping the first few days, all I could see when I shut my eyes was Brier's lifeless little body! But we are getting over it (as you can see by the pictures, all the animals are doing great!), still haven't been able to put a collar on him yet and have no intention of putting one on him while he's in the house.
