Update on Tyra

Well took Miss Tyra to the vet today for her check up. The infection is almost gone for her eyes BUT she will need drops in both eyes for the rest of her life to keep her from going blind. No, she does not have dry eye but it has something to do with the blood vessels in her eyes and autoimmune. Sigh..it is all good, my baby is healthy.

Good to hear Tyra's doing better for continued healing for the infection

Did she see a Vet ocular specialist to have the eye pressure checked w/a tonometer?

Have you had her blood pressue checked? High blood pressure can lead to eye issues incl blindness as well.

Glad Tyra is doing better and hope the infection is completely gone soon.

I *think* uveitis can be auto-immune related ....is that what she has?

her BP is fine and i can't remember what the vet called it. It started with a pin hole ulcer and he said the blood vessels are near the eye. He said not to be worried and this is quite common in Shih Tzu's. 1 drop x both eyes 1 x a day for 1 week, then 1 x every 2 days, then 2 x a week.

Does she cooperate for the drops? We can pill ours, give them vaccines, manhandle them in any other way...but try to put drops in their eyes and you'd think we were after them with a chain saw the way they struggle and run!

for continued improvement for Tyra!!

Hazel I will make you laugh, I stick the eye drop bottle under my boobs until warm. Open eyes and squirt drop in. No muss no fuss. Because Tyra was a show dog, I just give her the command " Stand" and she becomes a statue. She is really easy to handle. and a real love bug.

I've actually heard of that! Isn't that like a thickening or some sort of odd growth of the cornea? for continued success with the cyclosporin!

And what a great use for a boob!! I'll have to remember that trick--it's been way too long since my boobs were useful!

rainbow, you misremember--we put margarine under madame hazel's left boob...part of an anti-jinx routine, Shaykeija. Along with , kissing toads, etc...
