My dog eats her feces-then vomits it up (pills dont stop her)

We breed dogs so its hard to remember to give the pills to the large number of animals but when we have tried the pills they dont help in the least

the dog in question is the oldest and dominent female and also a little on the fat side if that is related to her bad habit in some way

This is ruining our carpet because she vomits poo up several times a week

Have you tried a product called Forbid, it is a powder that you sprinkle on the food or mix in and it makes the feces taste bitter( I think the powder itself has almost no taste). Most vets can get it and it is an over the counter product, you may need to add it to everyones food unless you know she is only eating her's. There are other reason's she could be eating it but I don't know a lot about it but I think other's on here do.

My dogs both eat their own poop and I've found that the only way to stop them is to either keep the yard very clean, or watch them every single time they go out to make sure they don't eat any. Sophie in particular will eat poop and throw it up, Benny seems to digest it better I have tried all kinds of different things in their food and I have yet to find anything that helps.

large number of animals... how many dogs DO you have, and are you a licensed breeder? you show your dogs to CH titles, you work them, you do all the health certifications... seems to me you should consult your vet who does all the health checks for your dogs and litters of puppies for some advice

I have come across this problem frequently. I also breed, but teach others when I am asked. Poo eating is not a medical problem. It is stricktly a behavior problem. In order to stop it you will have to keep a close eye on the dog. When she goes out you will have to leash her and take her out. Do not let her go alone. When she defecates watch what she does and when she goes to put her nose near it or another dog's give a sharp, fast and short tug on the leash. Do not pull so hard or so far back to hurt her. You only want to get her attention. Using the word no in a sharp and loud voice can also get her attention. Stay there and keep doing this until she loses interest then praise her highly. You will need to make sure that you tighten the leash to a short distance between you and her when she starts towards the poop. Granted, I work with small breeds and this may not work for you, but I figured it was something you could try. I wish you luck and hope you realize that because of her age this is not a quick fix. You will have to do this for some time until she no longer shows interest in hers or any other dog's poop.
