Vancouver has waaaayyyy to much snow!

Ok, just to amuse the rest of the country ......

We have had a very bizarre winter so far. The snow started mid-Dec and basically has only stopped for short times. We have had a bit of rain which has consolidated some of it down a bit but basically this city is NOT equipped to handle this kind of snow .

Snowbanks are twice as tall as Riley

Anyone want to try to jump the snowbank to catch the bus?

Lucy seems totally disgusted with the snow. It has actually frozen over mostly in our back yard which makes it easier for her to get around but she is basically sticking close to the deck unless encouraged otherwise.

Naanaanaa Looks like the equivalent of one snowfall for Ontario/Quebec.

Whoops, I mean, you have a bit of snow, being in Canada and all

omg, you really meant that you have a snow plow?! ooops....I mean

Man, that's a mess o' snow, though. I think you have more than we do!! We're getting frequent snowfall, but only a little at a time. Right now we're getting freezing rain

I love that shot of Riley by the car! He looks like he's giving it instructions for climbing out of the mess it's in!

And Lucy's expression!

It's supposed to rain a lot today. Ugh... So then it's going to be one big sopping wet mess. Floods. Actually I think we're back to "typical" lower mainland weather this week. Above zero temps and rain. And tomorrow, it's back to school time so those semi-quiet roads will have more traffic. And those lovely sidewalks that weren't plowed? Students will be walking on the sides of the roads. Dangerous.

I guess now is not a good time to say that we can see grass here. It has been unseasonably warm. But, I think that is supposed to change soon.
This year has been weird. I think we have your weather and visa versa for you.

I guess we should never laugh at BC's whimpy weather stamina , it may come and bite us in the but when we get 2 or 3 - 30 cm dumps and fridget temps of -20 before wind chill.

No, wait, it will take more than that to get us going, that is the norm for us

this must be a record for Vancouver, hopefully the regular dark rainy waether comes back for you, one reason I have alway loved AB is that it can be -20 to -40 and we have the beautiful blue sky and sunshine, I could not handle the gloomy rainy season that
Van has.

Snow and Cities just don't mix
It's always crazy that city planners never take into consideration space for things like snow banks.
I think it's just too much work to deal with snow, it's easier just to "stick your head in a snowdrift" and hope it all goes away SOON.

Tis beautiful when it is all white though

but, i'm guessing... time for it all to go away

Just don't be sending it here... we got enough

(if you like I can send my old snow shovel... I had to get a BIGGER one , I go through more than one a year - they wear out )

I couldn't agree more and I keep telling my Ontario friends that -30 Edm weather is better than Ontario's -10, blowing, damp cold.

Today was beautiful, cold, but sunny and calm day, reminded me of Edmonton so I had to go for a long, long walk in the golf course.

So much for the "guaranteed" rain that would "definately" be here before noon today .

It is kinda pretty though . I just prefer it to stay up on the mountain or at least just visit us for a few days .

Good thing I walked over to the pet supply store this morning to p/u litter and not waited until mid week Half of the sidewalks were slush, the other half buried in untouched snow - had to walk back on the road carrying a 20lbs bag of litter - sure got a couple of weird looks The only sidewalk fully and completely clear was the pet supply store I think it's the only one in my whole area

It's gonna get soooo much worse once the rain starts.

I cannot believe how much snow fell yesterday! It was a blizzard last night. I crossed my fingers that it would be a snow day but no.

Tomorrow the rains are supposed to come now. We'll see.

I knew that with all this snow, the flooding would be bad. A number of roads have been closed due to flooding and as you can see, in Chilliwack, it's really bad.

This shot is of the river near my school. On Thursday, the road to my school was closed for a while but then when the water subsided, they opened it up to allow students to get to school.

Oy! The basements must be messy

Is it still raining or is the water finally subsiding?

No, it's not my home. For once I'm thankful I live in a condo. Though we've had some leaking in our parkade, our place is safe and sound. The flooding has subsided which is good. And while there's rain in the forecast (it is the lower mainland afterall!) it's not going to be the harsh storms we've had to deal with in the last week.
