Old duck sick?

I have two pet ducks, one from birth now 13 years old.
The other has stopped visiting the swimming pool or generally moving around.
It lays day and night on a nest but never lays an egg.
I wonder whether it is sick or perhaps dying from old age?
If I carry it to the pool it will swim and appears fine but once back on the nest that's where it stays.

Did you check the duck legs and feet to see if there is a cut on them or something wrong with them? It might hurt to walk to the pool .

It does seems to walk as if it is stiff.(like old age?) Will check its feet.
It only needs to walk a few yards to its food but does not seem to even leave the nest to eat.

Not sure if this is even possible but some animals suffer from a false pregnancy?? perhaps her need to be on the nest?? Just a thought?? Is there a farm vet that may be able to have a quick look over at the duck?

Good Luck

Is it possible she's egg-bound? A vet should be able to tell you and maybe even be able to extract an egg if it's caught up.

They are two females and they have not laid an egg in years.
I'm taking my dog to the vet this week. Hopefully he can advise as he has ducks on his property (no farm vet)

I live in a densely populated urban area. No farms around here for miles.

The nest bound duck has resulted in the other now staying permanently at the pool, not retreating to its enclosure at sunset for food. It obviously cannot
stand its mate's anti social behavior.

First, your Duck seems pretty old, at 13 years for a duck its quite an advanced age and the fact that it doesn't lay eggs is understandable. Chances are that age is the major factor, the lifespan for a pet Duck is often less than 10 years or so. Still i would suggest a visit to the vet for checking.
