nostril scabs on kitten

my 3mos old kitten has scabs around his nostrils. he has had these from the time i got him.
i first thought it was from rough kitten play with his siblings, but now that i have had him for a month and a half, he still has them. i clean them with moistened qtips, rolling it over the scabbed area, but they seem to always return.
i have taken him to see a vet for his first set of shots, and is due back for his boosters in a couple of weeks. she did not seem too concerned and suggested that he was perhaps still learning to properly groom himself and scratching his nose.

do you think this is what is causing it, or could it be something else?

thanks!
