Where does that daylight savings hour go?

i was watching Becker and the nurse was making fun f the other nurses lack of intelligence by sating OMG you get confused over Daylight Savings Time .. and the dumber nurse says well it's creepy.. where does that hour go ???

and really.. where does it go? Personally i think they should get rid of it .. i think over how ever many years its been in effect its screwing it up.. i think we actuially lose a few minutes every year and now after sooo many years its affecting the seasonal changes .... or maybe i'm nuts ... but it seems that winter comes just a smidge earlier every year ..... and spring and summer lol ....... hmmm what r your thoughts ....

WHERE DOES THE HOUR GO ????

I like daylight savings.... in the spring, in one day, you suddenly get longer evenings, and as a result, energy is saved. Every day in the US 1% and In NZ, 3.5% less energy is used due to DST (just two examples). Seems small, but it adds up.
What will be confusing is next year. In 2005, Dubya signed an act that changed the day that clocks are swtiched in the US. I don't know if Canada followed suit or not. If we didn't it's going to be weird for a couple of weeks... we will see...

I also heard about the U.S. wanting to make daylight savings to be 2 hours instead of 1 a few months ago. Don't know how that went...

*groan* hee hee

The hour doesn't go anywhere because time isn't real. We just choose how long a minute is and how many there are in a day and when the day starts and things. None of that changes how long the day is.

But we have leap year because our calendar loses a day every 4 years (1/4 a day is lost every year).

Oh I'm like the nurses on Becker.

I was just trying to remember how the daylight savings time/leap year thing works to make the calendar adjust and I gave myself a headache.

There should be dumb brunette jokes. At least in my case it would be well earned.

Think of it this way: daylight savings is just for profits and doesn't affect anything in the long run, whereas without leap years, in about 500 years or something, summer might be in winter or something... I won't even try to do that math.

Apparently we remain an agrarian society (yup, just the other day I was a herdin' my flock up Bay Street...). I don't see the point of it anymore. If we were really serious about energy savings, enforcing bans on overhead lights and AC reductions in office towers at night in major economic centres would likely be as if not more effective.

No, it's more about economy. Apparently people spend more when it's light outside.

Oh no doubt Prin ... heck, ya don't have to call me twice to go shopping (which frankly I would be THRILLED to do at any time of the day or night regardless of raging heat or tidal waves). My only point in noting the link to agriculture is that it was originally imposed to assist farmers.

Yeah, but Sask is the most 'farmy' and they don't even have it there.
Doesn't make sense... But I guess that's because it was decided on by politicians...

Well, they'd have their own channels, so it wouldn't affect tv much.
