Question Staph infection

Hi,
my 6-year old cat was recently diagnosed with staphylococcus. The vet game him a shot and put him on a special diet. Does anyone have other suggestions or advice on how I can help him at home? Thanks.

You'll need to wash everything your cat sleep on everyday and you should keep the littler box cleaned too. I wish vets would give people instructions on how to care for a pet with staphylococcus. You should call your vet back and get instructions from him or her.
I posted a link that has info on how to car for a pet with staphylococcus.

I hope your cat will be better soon.

What was the shot (Convenia, I presume) and what is the special diet? What was your kitty eating before? Has he had any other health problems? Staph infections are largely a result of a weakened immune system, so the best way to prevent further recurrences is to keep your cat in peak health - by feeding a high quality, species-appropriate diet (ie no kibble), keeping stress levels low, minimizing or eliminating vaccinations, getting regular exercise, and using supplements if necessary.

Did your cat have any cuts or wounds and got the infection that way?

Yes the infection started with his paws. The paws are very dirty, and I have to wash them with a waterless foam bath. It seems to be getting better. Thanks for the advice.

Does your kitty seem bothered by the infection? I'm curious because occasionally our dogs will pick up staph from the grass in fall and develop lesions--but they never seem to be too bothered by them. We also use an antibacterial foam bath that seems quite effective.

We do for the dogs what sugarcatmom suggests--try to boost the immune system.
