Off Leash Parks update for London ONT: Not good news!

Good Morning. I am hoping to spark some interested London dog owners into helping to get the promised off leash parks rolling!

Once again the Off Leash Dog Park issue has been postponed. We were supposed to get a full report at the Community and Protective Services meeting on June 18th. It has now been put off until July 8th. But wait, there's more bad news. At the July 8th meeting they only plan to give an update, but those of us who expected and wanted more OLP's in the city of London can't let this happen. We need them to pick a location.

We must put the pressure on. Phone your member of Council, phone the CAPS committee and phone the Parks department. Tell them to not only to give an update, but DEMAND they pick a site and start to work on it NOW.

PHONE, WRITE, E-MAIL, LETTERS TO THE PAPER . . . . ANYTHING ! ! ! !

I have listed below the Parks staff to contact plus the members of the CAPS committee.

Good luck Lezzpezz. Some regrettably ill-informed members of Toronto City Council are now trying to require all off-leash parks to be permitted. This would be a real step backwards for Torontonians. I wonder if this is going on simulateaously in any other of the larger Ontario cities with off-leash parks. Maybe they're all going to make one sweeping decision. 's

Thank you! I appreciate the support! We have been following the Toronto parks issue as well and also hope that this idea is not spreading province-wide. Kingston just contacted us as they are now trying to create off leash parks for dogs as well and having some difficulties.

I went into this thinking it would be fairly easy to acquire off leash areas but have found it very trying at times.

This is just crap that we are going through now. All was approved unanimously at the last meeting and suddenly the brakes have been put on...but why???

As for dog owners here in London, they WANT the parks and show some support but would rather let LDOA do all the work. We need folks to come forth and raise stink with the councillors!

I don't get it. We had new parks in our grasp...the next to be opened this September. The councillors want it, the public (well, most of them!), want it, but now we are stuck because it is not going to be on the agenda! Someone decided it wasn't to be and POOF! NO PARKS!

Will keep you posted and good luck to Toronto and other cities working toward OLP's!!
