10 yr old dog occaisonally poops small amounts when sitting

Hello All!
My 10 year old american pitbull is a wonderful family pet. He has always been in good general health, is very playful and loving, eats, sleeps and does his outside business normally. The only age related symptom we have noticed is a touch of arthritis. Lately he has been letting little poops slip out when he is sitting. After it happens he slinks away as if he knows he's done wrong. We don't scold him for it as it seems it's not intentional. We have not changed his food and he goes outside and has regular bowel movements. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Carrie
