adding a second dog
hi,
i have a one year old male boston terrier, he is very high energy and loves to play with other dogs at the dog park, i am thinking of getting a second dog, but i am not sure what breed will best suit my energetic boston, i realize that not all dogs are made the same and i would take our dog to see how it interacts with the new dog but does anyone have any suggestions? we were considering either a bulldog (but we realize these are generally inactive dogs) or something larger like a rottweiler or doberman? anyone have any feedback on these? thanks in advance! rameets |

If your dog likes to play, a playful one- or two-year-old any type of dog would work well I think though, that if it were me, I'd try to find one that was fairly close in size to Zack, just to minimize the chance of someone accidentally getting hurt if they overdo the roughhousing. But really, as long as they hit it off, almost any breed or mix would do.

Probably not the best way to do it, but we have brought many dogs into our home over the years and never given a thought as to whether will they or will they not get along. Fortunately they all fit in no problem. Like I said it may not be the best way to do things.

I personally think nothing matches a Boston better than another Boston And I would bet there are a lot available to rescue!

And if you want to adopt from a rescue , they will let you and Zack meet the dog you're interested in to see if it's a good match |

That's what I would do. Take Zack to the SPCA or shelter or rescue in your area and let him decide who he wants for a buddy. |

I have a female boston terrier that is almost three years old, and she's lived with a variety of dogs. One was a cane corso! She always does well with every breed. But because BTs tend to play rough, a very small dog probably isn't the best idea.
Good luck! |

Boxers and BT's go very well together. They have the same clown like playful temperaments. I know so many people that have this mix

My female Boston lives with a "Standard Manchester Terrier" (not a toy) good match in size and temperment, not very popular.
