He removed his stitches!
I got home from the in-laws last night (left Casey because he was sleeping peacefully) and found that he had woken up, pooped, had some of it stuck to his fur AND had removed his stitches himself...!!! It was Saturday night, now Sunday morning and the vet isn't open until tomorrow --we were due to go to get them out tomorrow anyway -- nothing is open and it looks pretty much fine -- although he does keep wanting to lick it... How worried should I be???
(For those who don't know, Casey is my toy poodle puppy who was neutered last week) Thanks for your help and patience with all this!!! |

It's been a week, and if the incision looks o.k. I wouldn't worry. Try and keep him from bothering it though. If you have a cone, you might want to put it on him when you can't watch him, maybe for a day or two.
One of my feral cats removed her stitches after a spay. |

My puppy did this not long ago when she got spayed, she took them out the night before I was suposed to take her to the vet to have them removed. Took her to the vet and she said that Candi did just a good of a job she could have done and laughed.

I wouldn't worry if the incision has remained closed. They were probably irritating him and the little rascal took care of it himself. How is he otherwise? Does he still scoot around?

Update!
The vet took one look at Casey's incision and declared it to be healing perfectly and said that Casey did a great job of removing his stitches. My smart little guy.
Strangely, he kept on doing the weird scooting thing (although less than before) until the way home from the vet. It was almost like he'd heard the news and realized he wasn't an invalid anymore!!! Thanks your input!!! |

I just can't resist - - now you can call him "Dr. Casey"!! Uh-oh! I just dated myself. Probably nobody remembers that TV show!
